Bugis+ Food Trail 2013: Berrylite

0 comments
There's always room for desserts. Furthermore, a healthy one! Yes, please!

Berrylite frozen yogurt with strawberry and blueberry toppings
can you see how yummy this is?

Why is it good for us?

10 billion live & active cultures?! No kidding.

I'm sold. Are there more flavours or just the plain 'ol white frozen yogurt with various toppings? Of course! Not one, not two.. but 50 other flavours that they'll rotate every fortnightly.

caramel flavour

Wait...50 flavours, rotate fortnightly... does that mean I got to wait quite awhile for my favourite flavours to come back? Well, fortunately the customers can feedback (or petition) to the friendly staff so that their favourite flavours can be brought out again the soonest possible.

Cool. But what's the pricing is like? Here's a picture of that for you, my readers.

size and pricing

My tummy is lactose intolerant, and after eating the frozen yogurt, there wasn't any rumblings at all. Everything was sweet and cool. Plus, fat-free~!

You want more? Sure! In fact, we had a preview of a new product that they'll be introducing in April. Greek yogurt. We were informed that Greek yogurt has more protein as compared to regular yogurt. In terms of texture, it feels abit thicker/denser and just as yummy.

Greek Yogurt Parfait

Look out for it!

Bugis+ Food Trail 2013: Ireland's Potato

0 comments
Ireland's Potato is an intriguing name. Questions that ran through the mind, like "Did they import the potatoes from Ireland or is this a franchise that originated from there or...?"

There was a Great Famine between 1845 and 1852 in Ireland, and outside of Ireland this famine is known as the "Irish Potato Famine". This showed the dependancy on potatoes even then. After the famine, potato remained as Ireland's staple crop. Wiki info here.

According to Ireland's Potato website, it is this Irish passion and appreciative attitude towards the potato that inspired the brand. Wow.

potatoes and various dips and seasoning

cheesy baked potato skins, honey mustard

Verdict? It makes a good snack to share with. Tasty.

Bugis+ Food Trail 2013: Ramen Champion

0 comments
Located at Level 4 of Bugis+. Ramen Champion is a space that houses several stalls of famous Japanese ramen brands; Aoyama, Bario, Gantetsu, Ikkousha, Menya Iroha and Taishoken.

ramen champion entrance

Besides their specialty ramen, each of them have their own Singapore-inspired ramen. For this food trail, we got the chance to try these.

Aoyama's Special Tonkotsu Ramen (@$15+)

The Special Tonkotsu Ramen's broth was light and tasty with thin noodles.

Bario's Ajitama Ramen (@$14.50+)
thick, chewy noodles

Was told that Bario's pork bones soup broth has to be eaten hot, otherwise when it is cold, it can be quite 'jelak'. Characterized with what seemed like a portruding mountain in a bowl, it is in fact topped with huge mounds of beansprouts and cabbage. Have always thought of this as a man's ramen.

Next up, Gantetsu's ramen, which has a dollop of shredded ginger ontop. Its egg looked yummy too!

Gantetsu's King Chashu Ramen (@$15+)

Ikkousha was 2011 Ultimate Winner of Ramen Champion, hence, was anticipating its Spicy Takana Ramen (#2 in terms ramen popularity).

Ikkousha's Spicy Takana Ramen (@$15+)

It has the best broth! Mix the takana up, and the first two gulps almost made me choke because of its spiciness. But just can't stop slurping the 12-hours boiled pork bones broth! Only gripe was, why isn't there any ajitsuke tamago in this bowl?! There's just takana (spicy preserved vegetable), black fungus, spring onions and few slices of very thin chashiu.

lovely Hakata noodles

Liked Iroha's fatty chashiu lots! Almost melt-in-your-mouth kind. Its soup is chicken shoyu based.

Iroha's King's Ramen (@$18+)

Next, there was this bowl of fiery red looking ramen from Ikkousha. There's three spicy levels to it; normal, medium and dangerous. Normal is as far as I'd be willing to go!

Ikkousha's God Fire Ramen

After all the eating, and this being our 8th stop, I thought I could eat no more. That was when, Taishoken's Cold & Spicy Tsukemen was brought out. It tasted pretty refreshing and light, although it is still carbs!

Taishoken's Cold & Spicy Tsukemen (@$15+)

Ramen Champion is at Level 4. At the entrance, diner will be given an electronic tag. Pass this tag to the ramen stall, so that your orders are recorded into the tag. When about to leave, just pass the tag to the cashier at the exit and payment shall be collected then.

Bugis+ Food Trail 2013: Seoul Yummy

0 comments
The seventh food stop for that day. This restaurant has an open-air concept.

annyeong haseyo~

While waiting for the main dish to arrive, let's have some side-dishes first!

peanuts, kimchi, beancurd shreds, tofu, anchovies (rather salty) and spinach

If still feeling peckish, why not have some starters; tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and kimchi pancake.

spicy rice cake (@$6.90++)
kimchi pancake (@$6.90++)

The thin kimchi pancake was rather enjoyable. Not that spicy as compared to tteokbokk. If you're like me, and don't fancy that much carbs, how about some meat? Braised pork belly with kimchi, to be precise.

braised pork belly (@$8.90++)

Loved the braised pork belly. Fatty and tender. Simple dish. Yums. Another dish that we got to try, was the samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup).

ginseng chicken soup (@$24.90++ for whole chicken or $15.90++ for half)

The soup was simple, flavourful and adequately salted but the best part, would be the glutinous rice inside.

Next, the highlight of the table. Army stew! There are two types; assorted meat (including spam or luncheon meat!) or seafood. In it, one can find ramyun and rice cakes as well, besides an assortment of vegetables and tofu. Eat already sure filling!

army stew with assorted meat (@$36.90++)
seafood stew

The seafood stew was shiokingly nice! Spicy with a kick and full of umami. Nyam nyam! The stew's portion would be good enough to feed 3 pax, I think.

If you intend to dine there, do enquire about their set meal promotions (if applicable):

Set Meal for Two Promo (@$49.90++)
  • two Korean roasted barley tea
  • one choice of army's stew
  • assorted popular side dishes
  • two multi-grains rice
  • one choice of appetiser
  • one choice of dessert

Bugis+ Food Trail 2013: Manhattan Fish Market

0 comments
Can you believe it? My first time trying Manhattan Fish Market!

menu
decor and table setting
good for large group dining

The cool green drink was citrus mint. Tasted refreshing, a tinkling like mojito ice-blended, without the alcohol.

citrus mint (@$5.50++)
fried country mushrooms (@$7.95++)
caesar salad with crispy white bait (@$7.50++, plus $3++ add-on for whitebaits)
garlic herb mussels, served with crispy baguette (@$7.95++)

The crispy whitebaits on the caesar salad were indeed very very crispy!

Then, we sampled two types of mains; the Manhattan Fish N' Chips and the Flaming Seafood Platter.

fish & chips (~ depending on fish, prices range from $11.95++ to $14.95++ for regular sized)

Get the Flaming platter. Nice to watch and nice to eat!

watch the fire
ta-dah~ Flaming Seafood Platter (@$37.95++)

The torched cheese goes so well with the rice!

When we thought there was no more, out came our desserts. The Sizzling Brownie with Ice-Cream.

watch the sauce as it trickles downwards onto the hot skillet
Sizzling Brownie with Ice-Cream (@$9.90++)

Soft brownie, hot sauce and cold ice-cream equals yumsss! Good things must share!
