[Travel] In the Heart of Bangkok - Lunch at Guilty @ Anantara Siam Bangkok

Was staying at Anantara Siam Bangkok and made a reservation for set lunch at Guilty for the next day. Originally priced at ฿900++ for a 4-course Set Lunch, and there was a reduced priced when reserved via Anantara Siam Bangkok upgrades.

I was the first table at 1pm that day. Already knew what to order and that surprised the staff a little.

Also got myself a glass of cocktail to enjoy with the set lunch.

Cantarito @฿420++

Tasted predominantly of orange and soda, with mezcal. Good alcohol strength.

GUILTY Lunch Set Menu

corn bread

to eat with corn bread - spice, herb and salt

I liked it with all the condiments

Home-Made Guacamole with Tortillas Crisps

The guacomole tasted rather healthy, hence added a pinch of salt to enhance the taste.

Snack

Croquetas De Cangrejo

Crab Croquettes, Spicy Uni Mayonnaise, Coriander

The crab croquette was ok, and couldn't really taste the uni in the mayo. Still a nice bite.

Starter

BBQ Pork Belly Salad

I was impressed by the salad. The BBQ pork belly was tender and practically melted in my mouth. Not only that, the flavours in this dish came on strong! Tasted of soy in the dressing. The inclusion of pomelo flesh was lovely for that refreshing flavour.

Main Course

Brazilian Style Wagyu Picanha

The picanha was served with tempura baby corn and aji limo (the red pepper sauce). The meat was done medium rare and it was delicious. Loved the chimichurri sauce as well. Portion was just nice.

sip and eat

Dessert

Banana Latina

The dessert was done well visually. So lifelike. Hahaha! Oooh, discovered that its 'skin' was made of white chocolate. The inside was supposed to be banana cheesecake but it tasted pretty much like banana puree. The cake portion was a tad too little, maybe? Served with coconut ice-cream (my favourite!). The best bite is when all components; ice-cream, chocolate and banana cheesecake are eaten together.

chocolate, banana cheesecake

Loved the food here, and it made me curious of their other dessert. And... ordered some more dessert!

Signature Guilty Ice Cream “Popsicles” @฿425

Wow, the popsicles looked pretty and I think it is to be shared amongst 3 pax. Oops! Interesting to see that it was served on cold stones to maybe prevent the popsicles from melting too fast?

Mango passion fruit has chocolate shell too, and this was my second favourite flavour of the 3 popsicles.

Sweet Mango-Passion Fruit

Maybe am having popsicle fatigue but my tongue was not able to taste the lychee/mint flavours in the lychee-mint popsicle. But the pink sphere and the purple chocolate on it was nice.

Refreshing Lychee-Mint

My favourite popsicle was the chocolate brownie. Tasted of slight bitterness, some sweetness and whole lot of cocoa. Am guessing that was some salted caramel sauce on it.

Intense Chocolate-Brownie

In the end, the additional cocktail and extra dessert were on-par with the price paid for Set Lunch. But hey, what's life if there isn't a bit of indulgence every now and then!

Thank you to the Chefs and staff for pacing the lunch set adequately and I am satisfied.

Dallas Restaurant and Bar @ Sky Garden Suntec City

Sky Garden at Suntec, is a long way to walk from City Hall MRT. There was a period of time when I wanted to try Dallas chicken wings. That period was when there was only one Dallas outlet, at Boat Quay. Then, there came another period of time when people were raving about the grilled corn. I wanted to try that too.

So, chose this restaurant to meet with HS 'coz she's treating. Yay! Moreover, we can use The Entertainer App here. Double yay!

The restaurant offers al-fresco area as well as the cooler, air-conditioned indoor dining. No prize for guessing which one we opted for. Liked the decor, and the indoor dining gave a rather classy feel.

Happy Hour on weekdays lasts till 8pm. The cocktails which were originally priced at $18 or $19 are going for $12 during the magical hour. Ooh, so I got myself an 'Old Fashioned'.

Old Fashioned @$12++ (HH) - Maker’s Mark, sugar, orange & aromatic bitters

First sip, was like "Oh, whiskey." Haha, what was I expecting? Must have lost my mind for a while. What's the difference between scotch and bourbon? According to wiki, scotch is whisky made in Scotland and bourbon is whiskey made in USA. OoOooh... and bourbon is distilled from corn while scotch is generally from malted barley. So, all bourbon is whiskey but not all whisky is bourbon. OoOOohhh...

So Maker's Mark is bourbon whiskey and whiskey being whiskey, you'll know when you taste one.

For mains, we ordered ribs and cod fish. Food took quite a while to arrive and we thought that the ribs looked quite blackened! Don't be alarmed. A cut through the knife revealed tender flavourful meat, especially when chewed with some fatty bits. Nice.

Baby Back Berry @$30++ (half rack)

slow braised pork ribs that's easy to cut

The miso cod was pretty spot on with its flavours too. Pretty greens of broccoli and sweet peas, quick squeeze of lemon onto the vege and fish, and voila, we are so ready to devour. Miso sauce was very strong in flavours so a small dab of that onto the fish would be more than sufficient. Cod was lovely.

Miso Glazed Cod @$32++ served on a bed of mash, seasonal vege and a dash of miso paste

For desserts, we satisfied one of our curiousity and ordered the chargrilled corn. The corn was delish! A combo of something spicy, cheesy, creamy and savoury sweet. Recommended.

chargrilled corn @$6++ (cut into halves for easy sharing)

The spicy came from the chipotle mayo, and it has parmesan cheese, lime and smoked spices sprinkled onto the corn. Yummeh!

Thank you Hui Shan for the treat!

J's @ Purvis Street, Bugis

Located at 7 Purvis Street, which is at the street full of shops opposite of Bugis Junction, near NLB. This restaurant serves halal latin american food, mostly mexican food. It has vegetarian menu too. Its dinner opening time is 630pm, so if you're there earlier than that timing, then you'll have to wait outside.

Was told that lamb shank is one of their best-seller, so ordered one to try.

braised lamb shank with heirloom vegetables @$32++

Lamb was tender and enjoyable. Quite filling, with the mash potatoes and mushrooms.

colleague's 'catch of the day' (cod fish @30++)

Didn't try the fish but colleague said it was yummy. Waited quite a while for the fish though. Paella was the fastest amongst the mains to arrive, followed by lamb shank and lastly the cod fish.

For desserts, we had churros and flourless chocolate cake with ice-cream. Churros was good but, just two sticks?? Where got enough! The flourless cake tasted better with the gelato.

churros with banana and mangoes @$10++
bochas negras (flourless chocolate cake with choco gelato) @12++

Iced water is available. The restaurant is not that big, so the tables are placed pretty near each other. Service was friendly and approachable.

There's a section of the menu catering to vegetarian. A few appetisers and main courses.

Price is slightly on the high side.
