The Line Restaurant @ Shangri-La Singapore

Blessed with colleagues who wanted to have lunch during my birthday month. Working from home meant we actually don't meet unless we are on-site for meetings with clients.

Shangri La is my colleague's favourite staycation spot as he likes to bring his kids there for some family bonding time. Hence, he brought us to The Line for lunch after our meeting at client's place.

table for 3

My first time at this place, hence I asked him what are the must tries. He told me "Laksa". Ok and to attest to that recommendation, he actually started with a bowl of laksa. Haha!

For me, the cold stuffs first. It's been a while since I had any sashimi.

sashimi

snow crab leg, prawns

The chef at the sashimi counter, I think he had a mission to fill-up my entire plate. He gave like 6 slices of fish for each type. Luckily, I only chose salmon and tuna! =P

thick cut is best cut

Ok, am not a big fan of cold crab. Too much of a hassle to get that little bit of meat which didn't taste of anything and it definitely needed a squeeze of lemon.

plethora of things; roast beef brisket, pork trotters, fried ee-fu noodles, seabass, fried rice

Next plate was a mish-mash of East and West, cooked food. Trotters was nicely tender and collageny as it looked. The noodles and fried rice were ok. Fish was nice, especially with its skin on. Brisket was so-so.

chicken from the Indian cuisine section

The chicken was nicely tangy and can't go wrong with thigh meat. Next, of course need to try the recommended dish.

Singapore Laksa

with thin beehoon

The laksa rendition here was nicely fragrant with the spices but not much heat from it. Not too rich but adequate. One can elevate up the standard bowl with meat or seafood of their choice from the other counters.

Last, I felt the need to try their dessert because it did looked lovely from where I was seated.

key lime pie

durian cake

cheesecake

The must-eat from the dessert section, was the durian cake. So good, so yummy! Wished I had the stomach space for another slice! Key lime pie looked the prettiest on my plate and it was nicely sour and not overly sweet. Cheesecake paled in comparison to the durian cake.

Lastly, I went to try some ice-cream. Asked the staff over there what's good and she said, "Try everything." And she promised to make smaller scoops. Her colleague was rather taken aback by how many scoops she was placing onto my bowl.

And that was how I ended up with vanilla, chocolate, raspberry, coconut and mango ice-cream/sorbet. I think there were a lot more flavours but it wouldn't fit into the bowl. Hahahaha!

Thank you Mien Ta for the treat, and Wendy for the company!

Dallas Restaurant and Bar @ Sky Garden Suntec City

Sky Garden at Suntec, is a long way to walk from City Hall MRT. There was a period of time when I wanted to try Dallas chicken wings. That period was when there was only one Dallas outlet, at Boat Quay. Then, there came another period of time when people were raving about the grilled corn. I wanted to try that too.

So, chose this restaurant to meet with HS 'coz she's treating. Yay! Moreover, we can use The Entertainer App here. Double yay!

The restaurant offers al-fresco area as well as the cooler, air-conditioned indoor dining. No prize for guessing which one we opted for. Liked the decor, and the indoor dining gave a rather classy feel.

Happy Hour on weekdays lasts till 8pm. The cocktails which were originally priced at $18 or $19 are going for $12 during the magical hour. Ooh, so I got myself an 'Old Fashioned'.

Old Fashioned @$12++ (HH) - Maker’s Mark, sugar, orange & aromatic bitters

First sip, was like "Oh, whiskey." Haha, what was I expecting? Must have lost my mind for a while. What's the difference between scotch and bourbon? According to wiki, scotch is whisky made in Scotland and bourbon is whiskey made in USA. OoOooh... and bourbon is distilled from corn while scotch is generally from malted barley. So, all bourbon is whiskey but not all whisky is bourbon. OoOOohhh...

So Maker's Mark is bourbon whiskey and whiskey being whiskey, you'll know when you taste one.

For mains, we ordered ribs and cod fish. Food took quite a while to arrive and we thought that the ribs looked quite blackened! Don't be alarmed. A cut through the knife revealed tender flavourful meat, especially when chewed with some fatty bits. Nice.

Baby Back Berry @$30++ (half rack)

slow braised pork ribs that's easy to cut

The miso cod was pretty spot on with its flavours too. Pretty greens of broccoli and sweet peas, quick squeeze of lemon onto the vege and fish, and voila, we are so ready to devour. Miso sauce was very strong in flavours so a small dab of that onto the fish would be more than sufficient. Cod was lovely.

Miso Glazed Cod @$32++ served on a bed of mash, seasonal vege and a dash of miso paste

For desserts, we satisfied one of our curiousity and ordered the chargrilled corn. The corn was delish! A combo of something spicy, cheesy, creamy and savoury sweet. Recommended.

chargrilled corn @$6++ (cut into halves for easy sharing)

The spicy came from the chipotle mayo, and it has parmesan cheese, lime and smoked spices sprinkled onto the corn. Yummeh!

Thank you Hui Shan for the treat!
