Lime Restaurant @ Parkroyal Collection Pickering

Have heard of the buffet at Lime many years ago but never got around trying it. Finally did it with my foodies kakis when we did a staycation at Parkroyal Pickering.

Made a reservation for a Sunday night dinner and hotel guests get to enjoy a 15% off the buffet price.

The restaurant's tables were nicely spaced out and guests only need to write down the orders on the chit and staff will serve it to your table.

Us, being us.. literally ordered almost everything on the menu except the roasted meats as we had that in the morning.

Staff are friendly and efficient in clearing the plates. Kudos to the F&B team at Lime Restaurant.

Sashimi Sankan Platter

not sure if the slicing is supposed to be like this?

Started with cold appetiser / seafood and was tickled by the slices of sashimi. The salmon sashimi was sliced in a longish manner, and I don't think I've ever come across this style of knifework before.

Seafood Platter

Much preferred the seafood platter with those plump. juicy oysters over the sashimi anytime! Even the clams were nicely sweet.

salted egg lava tempura

local delights platter

The local delights platter looked kinda sad with the singular satay but luckily we didn't order much as the satay was tough.

chili crab

bak kut teh

The chili crab was good, considering it came from a buffet line and the sauce lovely to lick off.  Bak Kut Teh lacked the herby taste and was just soy sauce flavoured.

The grilled lamb chops were good! So good that we had second servings but then, the quality of the meat differs. First plate was more enjoyable with the tender meat. Second plate was still nice but not sure why it was much saltier.

Lamb Chops

Angus Beef

Realised that I forgot to take a photo of the roti jala with curry chicken. That was tasty and we had second servings for that too.

Shanghainese Scallion Noodles

Pickering Lobster Laksa

For dessert, the ice-cream was really good. I liked the coconut ice-cream with kaffir lime. So refreshing!

Nutella Banana Crepe

Assorted Berries Crepe

I'd recommend the Nutella Banana Crepe. Had two servings of that. I liked! The homemade mochi with durian pengat is worth trying too. Although it was just one bite, we were sooo full!

Then, Tracy wanted roti jala with chocolate. Yus, made it happen. Thank you Yus!

special order - Roti Jala with Chocolate Sauce

The service at Lime Restaurant was delightful. Thank you to the F&B team for your hard work.

Lovely dinner with Tracy, Hence and Ivan!

Beauty In The Pot 美滋锅 @ Star Vista

Once in a year gathering with ex-colleagues, and last year we were at Tan Yu and this time round, they decided to journey to the west. Hotpot, it shall be. Reservations were made by Jingwen (thanks!), and the wait was about 5 minutes for the table to be ready.

One thing to note is that each table was limited to just 90-minutes. Service was brisk, and diners are to order through the tablet. Liked that the information displayed included the trending items. For noobs, just get the #1 trending from each section, can't go wrong!

For soup, we ordered 4 different ones; collagen, mala, tomato and mushrooms. For sauce, the concept is similar to HDL, where diners would pay an amount (I think it was $2.99) per head and can get one sauce and fruits.

For drinks, we had the sour plum which strangely came looking like guava juice. A tad too sweet for me, this plum juice.

Beauty Sesame Dip 美滋锅芝麻味碟

Fragrant Spicy Sauce 特制香辣酱

For hot pot, we ordered the usual meat, fish paste, vegetables, noodles, dumplings etc.

Mixed Dumplings Platter

The dumplings here were pretty good. The mixed dumplings platter was like a sampler set and had Pork and Chives Dumpling (韭菜猪肉饺), Prawn Roll Dumpling (虾卷) and Prawn Dumpling (珍宝鲜虾水饺).

If you had ordered any Specialty Homemade Paste (滑类), then the staff will help you to push those into the broth. Other than that, it was pretty much on your own.

The must order thing for the night, turned out to be the fried beancurd skin.

Fried Beancurd Skin (炸响铃)

It was so good after being dipped into the tomato broth. This was match-made in heaven 绝配 (imho).

After you've finished your meal, the staff will serve you a complimentary shot of lime sorbet. Once again, it was pretty sweet and sour at the same time. Refreshing after a heavy meal.

Then, do remind the staff to bring you the fruits. If you need more, just let the staff know.

The time-limit was good to prevent us from over-ordering and over-eating. When we left at 10+pm, there was the next queue for the next seating as there is a promo of 20% off after 10.30pm.

Expect to spend about $40 to $50 per pax.

[Tasting] The Parlour Mirage - Craft Beer Tap Room @ 140 Owen Road

In collaboration with The Parlour Singapore (newly opened artist hub, founded by artist jaye), The Parlour Mirage is a craft beer tap room restaurant that serves up creative cuisine, of both Japanese and Mediterranean fusion.

The nearest MRT to Parlour Mirage would be Farrer Park MRT.

let's drink

Thank you Hence for the invite, Naomi (The Linch Agency) for showing us around and Parlour Mirage for hosting the tasting.

While guests enjoy their ice cold beer downstairs at Mirage, there are plenty of happenings upstairs as well. Head on up and there are rooms for Creative Workshops, Grid Cuture (music production school by Singapore's first Ableton Certified Trainer, Syafiq Halid) and The Music Parlour.

Meanwhile, I'd just head back downstairs for my beer. There are 12 rotating beer taps and I'd be selecting my drink based on 'tikam' basis if not for the friendly bar manager. I gave him key words like "fruity, don't want sour beer" and we ended up with a beer from Wild Brew , one of our local brewery. I liked its refreshing taste, and the immediate sweetness which tapered off to a bitter finish.

Chicken Karage @$12

For food orders, Mirage uses the waitrr app. We tried the Chicken Karage with mayo dip. Lovely, chunky thigh that's deep fried to golden. Thin batter and juicy meat. Yums!

chicken and beer, what's not to like?

Another must order at Mirage is the Fried Cheese. Premium aged cheddar is used and these little small cheese balls are huge in flavours. I think of it as dessert. So good that we kept popping one after another till it is all gone.

Fried Cheese @$10

can't get enough of these

Beer and yakitori makes a good pairing as well but have you tried yakitori with hummus? At Mirage, for every purchase of yakitori platter, one could get two accompaniments. My choice would be Pesto and Hummus.

clockwise from top: Asian slaw, fried mantou, Tzaziki, Pesto, Hummus, Guacamole, Pita Bread and Sweet Butter Corn in the center

Hokubee Beef Yakitori @$9.50 (2 sticks)

Salmon Belly @$9.50 (2 sticks)

Tsukune @$6.50 (2 sticks)

left: Devil's Peak Lager (South Africa)

My second beer, Devil's Peak Lager was mild and perfect for our hot and humid weather. If you are hungry, there's Hokubee Beef Don which is quite a substantial bowl. Meltique beef cubes in kombu sauce for that satisfying bite. Overall, the sauce was a tad too sweet for me though but there's the spicy pickles in the bowl to balance things a bit.

Hokubee Beef Don @$24

We also had the Straccietella and this works as a dessert for us. Think soft, mild ad creamy burrata with mixed honey nuts.

sweet cheese and beer

Overall, it was a fun tasting and I never thought I could have yakitori with hummus, or deep fried mantou with pesto. Am thinking about the cheese balls with Hammerhead beer. So good!

Come visit, and try it yourself!
