[Tasting] The Parlour Mirage - Craft Beer Tap Room @ 140 Owen Road

In collaboration with The Parlour Singapore (newly opened artist hub, founded by artist jaye), The Parlour Mirage is a craft beer tap room restaurant that serves up creative cuisine, of both Japanese and Mediterranean fusion.

The nearest MRT to Parlour Mirage would be Farrer Park MRT.

let's drink

Thank you Hence for the invite, Naomi (The Linch Agency) for showing us around and Parlour Mirage for hosting the tasting.

While guests enjoy their ice cold beer downstairs at Mirage, there are plenty of happenings upstairs as well. Head on up and there are rooms for Creative Workshops, Grid Cuture (music production school by Singapore's first Ableton Certified Trainer, Syafiq Halid) and The Music Parlour.

Meanwhile, I'd just head back downstairs for my beer. There are 12 rotating beer taps and I'd be selecting my drink based on 'tikam' basis if not for the friendly bar manager. I gave him key words like "fruity, don't want sour beer" and we ended up with a beer from Wild Brew , one of our local brewery. I liked its refreshing taste, and the immediate sweetness which tapered off to a bitter finish.

Chicken Karage @$12

For food orders, Mirage uses the waitrr app. We tried the Chicken Karage with mayo dip. Lovely, chunky thigh that's deep fried to golden. Thin batter and juicy meat. Yums!

chicken and beer, what's not to like?

Another must order at Mirage is the Fried Cheese. Premium aged cheddar is used and these little small cheese balls are huge in flavours. I think of it as dessert. So good that we kept popping one after another till it is all gone.

can't get enough of these

Beer and yakitori makes a good pairing as well but have you tried yakitori with hummus? At Mirage, for every purchase of yakitori platter, one could get two accompaniments. My choice would be Pesto and Hummus.

Hokubee Beef Yakitori @$9.50 (2 sticks)

Salmon Belly @$9.50 (2 sticks)

Tsukune @$6.50 (2 sticks)

left: Devil's Peak Lager (South Africa)

My second beer, Devil's Peak Lager was mild and perfect for our hot and humid weather. If you are hungry, there's Hokubee Beef Don which is quite a substantial bowl. Meltique beef cubes in kombu sauce for that satisfying bite. Overall, the sauce was a tad too sweet for me though but there's the spicy pickles in the bowl to balance things a bit.

We also had the Straccietella and this works as a dessert for us. Think soft, mild ad creamy burrata with mixed honey nuts.

Overall, it was a fun tasting and I never thought I could have yakitori with hummus, or deep fried mantou with pesto. Am thinking about the cheese balls with Hammerhead beer. So good!

Summerlong @ The Quayside

Brunch. Where to? How about place with beach vibe and Mediterranean food? Let's go!

menu

Bummer 'coz I was late and the place was getting busy by the time I arrived. "We got some bread and cauliflower hummus dip, that's more cauliflower than anything." They said while shoving a plate that's left with one triangular slice of pita. Okay, not that I can understand a word of those, but I think my friends meant, they had started with the breads and left one piece but more is coming and eat it with this dip.

Water is chargeable at $1 per head at this place, and you'd get the option of sparkling or still. Free-flow thereafter and the staff does a good job in making sure we are hydrated.

Oh, seems like there's a 2-hours limit for the table during weekends. Hence, we will need to return the table by 2pm for our 12pm reservation.

not sure what my friends had ordered, but it's one or two of these things

Tried The Venetian, which is made of Prosecco, soda water and a select apertivo, which turned out to be campari, I think. Nice colour and thankfully, not that bitter.

Soon, the food rolled in. Glad that we didn't over order this time round! Sausages were nice and mildly spicy. Friendly service staff reminded us to be careful with the Shakshuka pan as it was hot, and the soulvlaki looked kinda cosy wrapped in fluffy bread.

Lamb Soulvlaki @$17

The red shakshuka tasted more tomato-ey than of spices. Lovely when hot, and bread was useful to mop up those sauces.

The lamb souvlaki was lean and loved the fluffy bread with yoghurt spread. There was some tomato slices in there along with fries. Interesting mix of carbs on carbs.

To end, we had the citrus millefeuille. A lovely looking dessert. Sweet.

[Media Invite] A Lavish Christmas Brunch @ Roots Mediterranean

Here's another idea on where to celebrate the festivities, and where one could be spoilt for choice because Roots Mediterranean does Italian, Spanish, Greek and Levantine cuisines! We had a sneak peak into Roots' Christmas Brunch menu and boy, what a treat it was. Thank you Jennifer from JY Consultancy for the invite and Roots Mediterranean for hosting the brunch tasting.

awaiting for the feast... I mean for other guests to arrive
assorted breads and pastry

Started with an assortment of breads and I was besotted with this one. Not sure what it's name was, but it sure was delicious! Crispy puff with a dusting of icing sugar. There was a thin layer of custard in it.

favourite pastry

Tried the Octopus Gallego Carpaccio from the "Tapas, Mezze and Antipasti" selection. It was a beautiful plate. Thinly sliced flattened octopus, and drizzled with olive oil, lemon juice and with a scattering of herbs. Its texture was tender and only required a gentle chew. An interesting plate.

look, how thinly sliced this was

One could walk around the stations setup inside the restaurant and pick-out your favourite cheeses, salads, or more mezze!

hi there!
my plate

From the Carving Station, one could get the Wellington Fillet and the Roasted Lamb Leg. For any roasted/baked items, the outer layer would be slightly more cooked than the center. Meat was rather lean for both the lamb and beef.

There are also items served to your table during the Christmas Brunch, such as Oysters with Cava, Pizza Lobster and Prawns and Roasted Wild Range French Yellow Chicken.

Roasted Wild Range French Yellow Chicken

I must say that the roasted wild range French yellow chicken was my favourite meat for that day. Natural flavours with some super tender meat and lovely aroma from the skin. The skin was lightly brushed with truffle butter. The roasted potatoes was a crowd favourite and I particularly liked its wrinkled skin.

look at those juicy flesh

Take a break from all the meats and hear the oohs and ahhs, when the Pizza Lobster and Prawns is served. Succulent and well cooked prawns and lobster meat on pizza integlia alla romana.

And, of course there would be dessert. The festivities would not be complete without some Panettone!

dessert galore

lemon cake
chocolate tart, yoghurt cake and berries cake

The chocolate tart was excellent with its rich dark chocolate flavour on light crust. The yoghurt cake was surprisingly good too and best paired with a cup of coffee.
