[Jeju] Snacking @ Dongmun Traditional Market 제주동문시장

After slurping up the Octopus Noodles , we went back to a snack stall that we saw earlier. Let's have some eomuk, tteokpokki and gimbap!

The stall serves up the food fast and the patrons usually just stand infront of the stall to enjoy the snacks. There's also space inside the shop for patrons who wanted to have more food.

The inside was pretty full and we went in when a table had vacated. One should order at the front and then ask if there's any seats inside. Please have your cash ready and pay as soon as the food is served.

altogether ₩15000

The tteokpokki at this stall was huge, so having one was more than enough for me. Sauce was balanced spicy. The fish cake skewers, well.. it's fish cake skewers. Slightly tastier than other shops and looked good too.

gimbap

The gimbap was decent and the sundae was nicely soft, except for the liver which was dry and tasteless,

Apparently, this place was visited by Blackpink, way back in 2018 during the filming of Blackpink House in Jeju.

[Jeju] Octopus Noodles 오빠네 왕만두 문어라면 @ Dongmun Traditional Market 제주동문시장

Although we know we were headed to Dongmun Traditional Market, I didn't do any research prior on what food to eat there. Tracy said there's an octopus ramyeon shop, so we went round trying to look for it without realising that we had passed by it before...

At last, we looked up at the banner of one of the shop that we had passed by earlier, and voila! 'Octopus Noodle' !

our breakfast stop

The shop front seemed to be selling steamed mandus and steamed cakes. We enquired from the lone person in the shop if we could get breakfast there and he said yes.

The place was a small and functional. We were the only customers at that time. The interior felt like it was frozen somewhat in the passage of time.

The information that Tracy got, was from this post. I wanted the mandus so we enquired from the uncle on how many pieces were there in one serving. He said 5. So I asked if we could do a mix and he said ok.

mandu (5 pieces) ₩5000 - 3 pork and spring onions, 2 kimchi

The steamed dumplings were lovely. Both were pretty flavourful. Complimentary water is available. Self-service and get your own cup from the water dispenser in the shop.

side dish for the noodles

Though we were only having instant noodles, the shop still serves complimentary kimchi and pickled radish as side dish.

The broth for the octopus noodles was rather spicy. The octopus were cut up into small pieces and I quite liked the texture. Chewy but not tough.

pork ramyeon @₩11000

We ordered the pork noodles, and the broth, noodles for this was different from the octopus ramyeon. There were generous pieces of pork in the noodles. However, the meat was lean and a tad tough. It also had a stronger porky smell.

Both bowls had similar toppings of bean sprouts and onion slices.

The uncle was friendly and since we were the only customers, he talked to us a little bit to find out where we were from, and how did we find the shop.
