[Busan] Fishcake Feast @ Goreasa 고래사어묵 해운대점 Haeundae

This place is like 5 minutes walk from my hotel, so we went there a few times to buy our snacks. They have dine-in area in the shop.

all sorts of fish cake variety

The shop also sells a few types of noodles, so one could order the mains from the counter and add-on the fish cakes as side dishes.

The limited or seasonal fishcake is usually at the counter, so do walk around to scout for which ever that catches your fancy. But be careful not to go overboard. For me, I think my max per seating was just 4 fish cakes.

my breakfast

After you had purchased the food, go right in and get yourself a seat at the communal table. There is a microwave oven with instructions on how to heat up the fish cakes. There is also a cabinet that stores small cups for the hot soup. This soup was a nice accompaniment for the fish cakes. Tasty too!

The price for the fish cakes varies and those with premium ingredients such as whole prawn or abalone (yes they have this as well!) will be more costly as expected.

Pretty cool experience and it is a pilgrimage of sorts to tourist to come to at least one of these shops try.

[Busan] Haeundae Eonyang Bulgogi 해운대언양불고기 @ Gunam-ro Haeundae

We were just wandering around the area near our hotels to look for dinner as the one that we went to after Spaland, was closed when we arrived at 9pm.

So we came back to the stretch of eateries at Haeundae beach as most opens till late. Decided on KBBQ and walked into this random shop that we saw.

Staff was quick to urge you in to take a seat. I guess they're feeling competitive as the next door shop is also doing KBBQ.

Ordered the beef platter set, plus additional order of yukhoe (raw beef).

brisket

We started grilling the brisket but did a pretty bad job at it, because we were noobs and didn't spread out the brisket properly. The staff came by to rescue it and managed to get the job done though some parts were burnt beyond recognition. Hahaa! From then onwards, the staff decided to help us with the grilling. The worker is from Vietnam and speaks fluent Korean, and some English.

yukhoe

The yukhoe was nice but could do with more slices of pear.

The set also came with a small serving of galbi soup.

It was nice to have the staff to help grill the meats.

The meat cuts were decent and the flavour was nothing out of the ordinary. And the finale for the BBQ was the bulgogi.

finale - bulgogi

It looked nondescript but once you've tasted it, that's when realization hits! It was good! And after that, we enquired what's the shop name and it is Haeundae Eonyang Bulgogi. Ahhhh, now it makes sense. Recommend the bulgogi, it was legit.

yummy bulgogi

Thank you to the staff who attended to us that night. We spent ₩192,000 for the meal, which was about SGD49 per pax.

[Busan] Haeundae Obok Restaurant 해운대 오복돼지국밥 @ Haeundae

After Jeju, we went to Busan. For our first day in Busan, dinner was dwaeji gukbap (pork porridge) at Haeundae Obok Restaurant. It's a restaurant that is within walking distance from our respective hotels.

The restaurant feels like a family restaurant and I spied that solo diners are welcomed too. The restaurant offers set meals for 2 pax, so one could choose which type of rice porridge (difference is with the accompanying meats) and it has its own accompanying sides. I was sharing with Ivan, so I chose my porridge to be with the pork head meat (because it sounded like a delicacy) and it came with a small side of boiled pork. Hence and Tracy's set came with the sundae (blood sausage).

Staff was generally friendly and we did see the boss in the restaurant as well.

The orders arrived rather quickly as the restaurant was not too busy at the time of our visit. We were there for early dinner or late lunch.

I liked my order. Pork porridge of head meat and innards. The broth was flavourful and rather comforting although it was pretty hot weather outside.

I liked the pork porridge here better than the one that I had at Busan city center in the previous visit. No queue and on point flavours.

We spent about ₩16,250 per pax.

[ Busan] Hou Yangkkochi 호우양꼬치

We had pork and beef BBQ prior and there's still room for more. So what did we do? Went right into this shop that had lamb skewers! Right, we expect nothing less from foodies...but stressed leh...we ate and ate and ate somemore!

menu
We took the course set on the left; lamb cutlet, lamb chops, lamb skewers and tangsuyuk. No rice, of course. After that, we were surprised when the boss brought out a bottle of Harbin beer. "Service." He said. Which means, he gave us a bottle of free beer. How cool was that! Busan people are really friendly.

beer - complimentary
This BBQ place was more of Chinese-styled. Even the seasoning spices for the BBQ is reminiscent of Xinjiang meat skewers. Liked that the place is spacious, modern and using charcoal grill. Yay!

left to right: spices: flavoured salt (curry), cumin, chili flakes, pickles, salted peanuts and spring onions

The guy who attended to us, I think he is the boss since he was the one that brought the beer FOC. Pssst...He's also quite good looking. He helped to cook the meat, cut up the meat into chunky bite sized and also distributed the meat evenly towards the two sides of the grill where we are seated.

The pineapple and rice cake (떡) are then left on the grill to char a bit. The meat was surprisingly gentle to the jaw. Not too gamey. Tasted pretty good with the cumin and flavoured salt. Not forgetting the ice cold beer. Ahhh...that hits the spot.

spiced it up!

And, then the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) came. It looked rather impressive with its golden brown colour and large pieces. Unfortunately, that 'large piece' were mainly sweet potato flour. The meat was really really thin and tiny. We didn't finish this plate. The sauce was nicely sweet and sour though. What a pity.

look at the size and that's not a teaspoon btw

Lastly, the lamb skewers. Amidst the skewers, there was one with gingko nuts. Nice.

Here's a super short video of the action:

The food and place was nice and with friendly staff. It was just a random place that we dropped by. 맥주 감사합니다!

[Busan] OK 암소갈비살 (Amso Galbisal) - BBQ in Busan (What a fun evening!)

It was our last night in Busan, hence we wanted to try some BBQ before we leave for Seoul the next day. Earlier, we went sightseeing in Gamcheon and by evening time, we were hungry again. We went to a street that had some BBQ shops but couldn't find one with beef though. As most of the shop signages were in Hangul, we had no idea whether it is ala-carte or buffet. Randomly, we picked a shop that had mostly local customers.

shopfront

I liked that the lady in the shop welcomes us (the tourists) and was patient enough to explain the items in the menu and how the pricing works. If I remembered correctly, they have a time-limited special where one could enjoy unlimited grilled meat (selected) for an affordable price of ₩5500. That's a very good deal if you ask me.

We ordered some the unlimited servings of meat, some ala-carte and of course, makgeolli. There were two guys (probably in their late thirties or forties) sitting at the next table, and he saw us having makgeolli. He was saying something in Korean but we didn't know what he was saying but he asked the lady to bring us a can of soda. Orhh...for mixing with makgeolli. He said he's buying us that can of soda. Hahaha!

setting up the table

The appetiser included a bowl of beondagi 번데기 which is steamed silkworm pupa. It was fear factor for us so we returned the bowl to the staff. No thanks. The guy at the next table chuckled at us and said it is 'health food' before proceeding to pop some into his mouth.

I liked the acorn jelly appetiser with its tangy broth. Very refreshing and appetising.

While language barrier was there, that did not stop us from making merry with the guy at the next table. He was grilling some pork skin and offered us some. So nice. In return, we offered him some yukhoe as well.

It was my first time eating 육회 (yukhoe) which is raw seasoned beef strips. The seasoning included sugar, salt, soy, minced garlic, spring onion, pepper and sesame seeds. Mixed it well with the raw egg and add the pear strips for sweetness and crunchy texture. As a result, it was delicious!

육회 yukhoe

Makgeolli and good meat, we were happy! The folks were friendly and the food was good. Worth a visit.

delicious BBQ
