Lee Lai Jiak 李来甲 @ Tiong Bahru Plaza

Chanced upon this place as we were wandering around Tiong Bahru Plaza for a place to have our dinner. It's been so long since I came back to this mall. Has it been over 10 years? I guessed so.

shop sign

The place looked spacious and bright, so decided to park our butts there and to enjoy milk tea with our food. The physical menu is at the counter, or one could just scan the QR code at each of the table to peruse what to eat and to order as well. Payment at the counter after your meal. Send the order for food and drinks via the application and staff will bring it to your table once it is ready.

Scan first, eat later

Our food arrive pretty quickly. Especially the braised minced pork rice (卤肉饭). Super fast, within 5 minutes after we ordered.

Braised Minced Pork Rice @$8.80

Pig Intestine Mee Sua @$9.80

I'd recommend the lu rou fan (braised minced pork rice) instead of the pig intestine mee sua although I loved the intestines. The rice dish looked better and tasted better. Plus, it is more filling than the mee sua which was a tad too much liquid ratio when compared to the mee sua.

Flavour wise, both are nice. Loved the pickles in the rice.

Salt and Pepper Chicken @$9.80

I felt that the salt and pepper chicken was too little, for the price paid. It was quite funny to see this plate with a smattering of small pieces of chicken whereas the staff brought out a plate of gorgeous large piece of golden fried cutlet to the table next to us. Am guessing that must be the Golden Kala Chicken Thigh or Chicken Chop? No idea.

To be fair, the salt and pepper chicken was tasty. Good as a beer snack.

Milk Tea @$4.80

I liked the milk tea. Mild and not too sweet yet, it has that distinct tea fragrance. Tried their Wintermelon Milk Tea too. It was much sweeter than the milk tea. Otherwise, nice flavour and made me think of Fengjia Night Market

Staff are nice.

Poulet Bijou @ Jewel Changi Airport

First time trying Poulet and foodie gang decided on the Jewel outlet. My colleague was once raving about the tender chicken of Poulet Bugis outlet, so let's see how Poulet Bijou fares.

Went during the weekend for lunch sometime in Dec 2022. The restaurant was fairly relaxed and not crowded.

menu

specials

Of course we ordered their famed chicken, and also got ourselves the Seafood Stew which appeared to be a special/seasonal item. The Stew was meant for 2 pax. We are in a group of 5 pax. Some of us arrived earlier so we got ourselves a bowl of fries to start.

Truffle Fries

To our surprise, the fries was served lukewarm. Which meant that it could have been sitting out for a while. Requested for the staff to reheat it and she was slightly taken aback by the request. Nevertheless, she did bring it back to the kitchen and some minutes later, it reappeared again and this time, the fries looked slightly darker, and at the right temperature.

refried fries

For drinks, I had the cucumber fizz. Refreshing as expected. Good. Hence, had the exotic Homemade Brazillian Lemonade that looked milky.

Signature Roast Chicken Set with Diane Sauce (whole chicken)

Seafood Stew

served with garlic bread

The seafood tasted alright. Tangy and light. Whets up the appetite. The signature roasted chicken was lovely with the meat tender as expected. However, my friends mentioned that the meat should be more tender than what we had that day.

tender meat

Diane sauce is a brown sauce cooked with turkey bacon. Nice but I could do without it as well. The chicken was well marinated and holds pretty good on its own. Lovely chicken skin!

We ended on a savoury note with a crepe. I liked it but would prefer more chicken!

Irodori Restaurant @ Four Points by Sheraton

Went there for their ala-carte buffet. At every table, there is a QR code to scan. So one will submit their orders via this method. Be prudent on the first order of everything, to guestimate the serving portions and appoint designated person in the group to prevent over ordering.

entrance

Started with dobin mushi (tea pot soup). Flavourful and warmed the tummy.

土瓶蒸し (Dobin Mushi)

is that Matsutake mushroom?

Of course, we need sashimi and we ate lots when it is buffet. Happy to know that we enjoyed the sashimi slices here, especially the hamachi (yellowtail).

swordfish sashimi

yummy

Of course, we need some greens. Is seaweed considered vegetables?

ワカメ wakame salad

Ebi Tempura

For prawns, I prefer the tempura version over the panko fried version as tempura version tasted lighter.

deep fried prawns

There's also a one-time serving of their special grilled mentaiko prawn (one piece per diner).

Ebi Mentai

Was disappointed in beef shogayaki though. It first appeared with smoke emitting from the plate, so we were surprised when the meat was only lukewarm/closer to cool. When our friend who came late ordered another one at a later time, the temperature was better for the dish.

beef shogayaki

The other deep fried stuffs that we had were tebasaki and karaage. Hmm, no need for repeat.

tebasaki

There's sushi and maki too. Irodori Maki was nice. If I had to choose between Hamachi sushi and Hamachi sashimi, I'd go for the sashimi.

Although I didn't have much carbs during this buffet except for irodori maki (1 slice), ended up pretty stuffed after just 1 hour of eating sashimi and fried food.

There's a coffee machine in the restaurant that you could get yourself a cup of coffee to end the meal.

Buffet Lunch & Dinner for Adult is priced at $39.80++, Child is priced at $24.80++ (Below the age of 10).

Sushiro @ Lot One Choa Chu Kang

This is the outlet nearest to my home. Go to the counter and get a ticket. Then, wait for your number to be called. Waited for less than 10 minutes before mine was called.

let's order

Seems like the Limited time special currently has plenty of yellowtail items, and I like yellowtail, so ordered some.

But first, a sip of whisky and soda. The alcoholic drinks at Sushiro are pricey.

Whisky & Soda @$9.90

The Marinated Winter Yellowtail in Yuzu Soy Sauce is flavourful but the slices were pretty thin. Winter Yellowtail with Monkfish Liver had thicker slices but there wasn't much flavour from the monkfish liver. Good oily mouthfeel.

Marinated Winter Yellowtail in Yuzu Soy Sauce @$3.90

Winter Yellowtail with Monkfish Liver @$4.90

Because it is nearing the weekend, decided to splurge a little. Ordered the fatty and less fatty tuna.

Less Fatty Tuna @$3.90

Fatty Tuna @$4.90

Blackthroat Seaperch @$2.90

Vinegared Fatty Mackerel (from Japan) @$2.90

But the best sushi, goes to Tuna Yukke. Flavours, on--point. Yums.

Tuna Yukke @$2.90

I thought I wasn't full yet, so ordered chicken karaage. Well fried and served piping hot.

Chicken Karaage @$5

Press the button on the menu to 'Check Out' when you're done and staff will come by to scan the number of plates. Take the payment card from the staff and go to the kiosk to pay.

[Media] Perfect Earth Organic Instant Noodles

First time trying Organic Gluten-Free Instant Noodles from Perfect Earth. I've tried their pasta before and was excited to try these instant noodles.

Product of Thailand and available in Singapore e-commerce market; foreveryoung.com.sg, RedMart, FairPrice Online, Lazada, Qoo10, Shopee and Amazon.sg.

Garlic Pepper, Kimchi and Tom Yum

Perfect Earth Organic Instant Noodles (Tom Yum) @$2.75 (one) / $12.35 (5 per pack)

I have tried reduced calories Korean instant noodles before and can't say I like them. Hence, it was with some trepidation of the outcome for this one. I love Thai mama noodles, so that's a good start!

organic noodles and seasonings (other ingredients such as egg, vegetables and fish tofu, please supply on your own as per your liking)

The noodles came in a smaller square than expected. It is made from organic brown rice, non-fried, gluten free, GMO free and no MSG. What's interesting is the height of the square noodles is taller than the other instant noodles. This messes up with the water proportions since I only have a one size cooking pot.

Cook until the noodles softened or when its colour turned off-white. There are actual cooking instructions on its packet, but I'm a lazy cook, so did whatever that I wanted since it is going into my stomach anyway.

organic instant noodles

To my surprise, the Tom Yum seasoning was nice. Nicer than those soup cubes. Flavourful and quite shiok. Noodles, tasted healthy as expected and it is a thinner version of instant noodles. Or perhaps, I am too accustomed to the Korean instant noodles thickness.

If you're not sure which flavours you would like to get, there's a taster pack for one of each flavours for just $8 (Taster Pack 3 Packs).

Thank you Hence and Tracy for the noodles!
