Amò @ 33 Hong Kong St

For our foodie Aug gathering, we were at Amò. An Italian Concept by Michelin Star Chef-Restaurateur Beppe De Vito.

Had a reservation at 7pm but was informed that we could only have our table until 830pm. Alright. Seems like this is one popular joint!

Arrived to a table that had started because some had arrived at 6+. The mushroom starter with egg confit and caramelized onions was really tasty. Made one feels like having a drink.

My friends had started but they saved a slice of Margherita for me. This turned out to be very very good. When it comes to eating pizza, do you like to eat with fork and knife? Or, use the hand to roll it up before enjoying a big bite of it? I'm for the latter, even though we are in a classy place. It just made the eating much more enjoyable. And perhaps, enhanced the taste too? Hahaha!

I did order a gin-based drink called Jin-Aji. Lovely yuzu flavour, sweet and refreshing.

We had a couple more pizza and of course, meat. Just one meat though. Iberico Pork Chop sounded like a good choice. The best part? The meat just right above the bone.

Was mesmerized by the beautiful Broccolini, Pancetta, Pumpkin and Smoked Mozzarella pizza from its Signature series. It was leaning slightly to the sweeter side of things but the cheese and its vibrant colour, made us happy.

The last pizza that we had was the Pork Sausage pizza. First time am having potatoes as a topping on a pizza. Interesting! I love how the edges of the pizza was charred. It added character to the pizza.

On average, we had eaten about 4 slices of pizza and abit of the rest. Ended up feeling rather full as these were not the thin crust pizza type, and we did finish all our crust.

Overall, the pizza was chewy and loved that it was laden with cheese. My favourite in terms of flavour was the margherita because of the tangy tomato based sauce and its familiar taste. The most beautiful had to be the pumpkin pizza and the pork sausage was interesting because of the potato topping but the last two were leaning towards the sweet side.

Suitable for date nights and expect to spend about $40 to $50 per pax.

complimentary dessert - chiacchiere

Thank you to the nice and attentive service crew at Amò. As well as for the plate of chiacchiere for us to try.

Zzapi Pizza Bar @ Balmoral Plaza

Was at Balmoral Plaza, Bukit Timah recently and noticed this new pizza joint. Zzapi looks familiar and realized that previously, it was located at Valley Point. Decided to grab dinner and a drink from there.

Happy Hour till 8pm, so had a glass of red for $8++.

main subject out of focus, but everything else comes to clarity - sounds like life

Food came fairly quickly and portion was good.

deep fried calamar and shrimps @$15++
osco busco risotto (specials)
parma ham pizza @$24++

The deep fried shrimps were of a good size. However, it was lacking in taste.

Had wanted to get a risotto and was asked if we would like to try an off-menu item. Game on.

The risotto was enjoyable, moist and tasty. Plenty of veal too. Best parts were those with some fats.

Pizza was alright, but we were too full to finish.

The place closes at 11pm on a Friday night.

Spizza @ Balmoral Plaza

Located at Balmoral Plaza, Bukit Timah Road. This outlet is at the corner. Many a times, we turned away because the place was crowded. Tried our luck again on a weekday about 730pm, and it was pretty relaxed.

Sat at its alfresco area where we enjoyed the evening breeze.

Already knew what my dining companion would order and true enough, we had pizza Isabella (parma ham with rocket leaves). Still remembered my first Spizza ala delivery and she ordered this for us as well. A perennial favourite.

For starters, had the calamari.

deep fried calamari @$13++

The spicy 'Pizzaiolo' dip was well...really wasn't spicy. Not at all. It was just tangy. Calamari was tender and the batter was barely seasoned. Liked the big round pieces of the calamari.

For drinks, one shall not resist a 1-for-1 on sparkling wine; Italian prosecco. Quite enjoyable this prosecco. Tiny bubbles and easy to drink.

Val d'Oca Prosecco

Liked the loads of rocket leaves. Pizza crust was not too thick, and best eaten (for me anyways!) folded with the ingredients all rolled up. Salty with some chewyness. Goes quite well with the dry prosecco. Medium sized pizza is 10 inch while large pizza is 12 inch width.

For desserts, we tried the tiramisu. Not too sweet.

Staff were friendly and generous. Gave us enough space between service, hence the overall mood was pretty relaxed.

Expect to pay about $35 per pax for a meal.

There is a credit card promotion for AMEX Platinum, so do enquire as it gives a discount off the total bill (excluding alcoholic drinks).
