6ixty 7even Restaurant & Bar @ 67 Neil Road

Went back with a group of friends as promised. Read more on our previous visit here. This time round, we opted for the upstairs dining experience.

table for six

Got ourselves a bottle of red, while some of us were having cocktails to start.

cheers~

Fries and wine, why not? Our small bowl of truffle fries were so delectable as it was served piping hot. Yums!

Truffle fries with gruyere cheese and truffle aioli @$15

Korean Yangyeom Style Crispy Chicken Karaage @$14

Pan Roasted Foiegras, Caramelised Granny Smith Apples, Mulled Wine Raisins, Feuille de Brick @$26

Loved the chicken karaage as it was well fried and not too tiny to bite. The foie gras was a tad challenging to be shared amongst so many of us, haha!

Kurobuta Pork Chop Bone In, 250g @$42

For mains, we ordered the pork chop, chicken roulade and braised beef cheek. Everyone loved the mash that came with the roulade because it was so naturally sweet. The beef cheek was the standout dish for it was so flavourful and tender. Hits all the right spots. Loved the pork chop as well but it was just 250g. Limited edition but was good enough for everyone to have a taste.

Crispy Roulade of Farmed Chicken @$28

Signature Connor Stout Braised Beef Cheek @$32

To end our meal, we had the Basque Burnt Cheesecake. It was lovely.

Basque Burnt Cheesecake @$20

Cosmopolitan @$16

Had fun hanging out with the monthly buddies. Cheers and see you again!

Expect to spend about $80 per pax, inclusive of a drink.

[Staycation] One Night Experience - KēSa House, The Unlimited Collection by Oakwood | Dinner from Olivia Restaurant and Lounge | Breakfast from Tong Ah

KēSa House, The Unlimited Collection by Oakwood

I must admit that the stay was on a last minute whim. In Oct 2021, AMEX had a promotion where a maximum of $50 will be credited back for spending of $200 or above at participanting Oakwood properties.

Made a last minute booking the day before of the stay for their last Standard room for which I paid above $200 and hence, eligible for the rebate. Standard room rates starts from $168 if you booked in advance.

I love the colour of KēSa House, and this would be my first time staying in a heritage building.

KēSa House

The frontdesk officer on duty that afternoon, was Salina. She regretfully informed that my room wasn't ready as I was early. The standard check-in time is 3pm. No problem, I said. But it will be good if it can be ready before 2.30pm as I needed to go elsewhere by then. She said she will try.

Took a walk outside for about one hour, and returned at about 2pm. The room was still being prepared. If the lobby is occupied, there's another corner at its side where there are more seats. Just that, guests will pass by this area everytime one leaves the hotel or going back to their room.

Level 1 - more seats near the lift

stairs to Level 2

Was just hanging around at Level 1 as the lounge at Level 2 was occupied. Saw a couple moving in with lots of barang barang, so am guessing they'd be here for longer stay. Saw on the hotel website that they used to have an offer called "RENO-CATION: THE MONTH-LONG ESCAPE".

decor at Level 2

Level 2 comfy Lounge (evening view)

At about 2.10pm, I was informed that the room is ready. It'll be at Level 3 (same floor as the laundrette). There is one lift in the building, hence could use that if required.

Laundrette

The Standard room is actually not the smallest room at 13  m2. Bed is standard Queen sized. No window for the room that I got, unless you count the tiny one next to the floor near the bed.

Standard Room

bathroom

The bed is comfortable, the room space is efficient and there is a pull-out table beside the bed (where the blue stool is) for vanity or to eat da bao'ed food.

The bathroom space is good for one pax.

well stocked amenities

toiletries

The room is clean enough for visible places. Had discovered that the bathroom sliding door (the one that is between the bathroom and the room) was pretty dusty. Probably no one slides this out? Hmmm, perhaps I'm the only one feeling insecure because if the room door is opened, the person who walks-in, can see whatever state you're in, in the bathroom.

the view when lying down on the comfy bed

There are glass bottles in the room for guest to fill with sparkling or cold water from the kitchen in Level 2.

water bottles

How'd you like your water? Room temperature, cold or sparkling?

sparkling~

Sparkling water was refreshing! But I learnt that sparkling doesn't taste that good, the next day. =P

There is a kettle in the room but no mugs for hot coffee/tea. Disposable cups, instant coffee/tea are found in the kitchen. There is no bedroom slippers so you gotta bring your own, if you need any. I brought mine because I don't like to use my outside shoes in the room.

Olivia Restaurant and Lounge

turn to the back for takeaway menu from Olivia Restaurant and Lounge

One could order takeaway from Olivia Restaurant which is just downstairs of the hotel and turn left. The menu can be located in the room and guest could order using the Waitrr app. Only needed 15 minutes to prepare my food on a busy Saturday evening. Pretty efficient.

Bikini, Barcelona @$16

Iberico Ham, mozzarela cheese and truffle sandwich

Ok, granted mine wasn't hot food. The sandwich was really tasty and I think it'd be good with a glass of wine. Pretty yums.

But the highlight, is of course, their cheesecake. One must eat the original cheesecake from Olivia.

Olivia's Homemade Cheesecake (slice) @$14

But, I forgot to ask them to pack me a fork/spoon. How am I gonna eat this melty cheesecake? Well, I found a pair of disposable chopsticks in my bag, so used that instead. Too lazy to head back downstairs.

flavourful

Wow, I didn't expect blue cheese to taste this good! Am impressed and yes, the next time I'm eating this, I won't be sharing. All mine!

Tong Ah Eating House

No hotel breakfast? Not an issue. Just head out for local breakfast at Tong Ah (but finding seats are very challenging on a Sunday morning) so, I packed my breakfast back to the hotel.

iconic Tong Ah

kopi, kaya toast and soft-boiled egg set

local breakfast, 'unboxed'

kaya toast

soft-boiled eggs with soy sauce and dash of pepper

I liked the gray kaya used in the toast bread. I remembered my nanny used to make this version. The eggs were nicely big and runny but the coffee I didn't like due to the stronger milk taste. Am not a milk person, sorry.

The stay at KēSa House was pleasant but the walls are thin. Any loud noise from the corridor can be heard clearly in the room. Hence, am thankful for the night that stayed, was only disturbed for a short 10 minutes after midnight. The airconditioning was alright, and the mini-fridge kept things cold. There's a 7-eleven nearby too. Plenty of restaurants nearby so no issue with food and drinks.

Check-out process was fast and no extension, typically due to the high demand for their rooms.

[Staycation] PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering - One Night in Collection King Room

Second visit to Parkroyal Collection Pickering and this time without the gang. Read more about the previous visit. Chose Collection King Room, so that there is no need to venture outside. Managed to check-in around 11.30am, so this is one aspect that I appreciate about Parkroyal Collection Pickering.

Was given the room at Level 13, one floor higher than previous Urban room.

First impression of Collection King? Hmmm, feels a tad smaller than Urban room actually.

two Arpeggios because it tasted the best!

wonder if it'd be better to line the bin with trash bag?

The amenities in Colletion Room is from Appelles Apothecary & Lab. I liked the hand soap, but the body wash and shampoo smelled pretty masculine.

Afternoon Tea - 3pm to 5pm

The place was spacious with natural light flow.

Afternoon Tea for one

Marble Cheesecake, Scone, Pistachio Financier

let's start with scone

served with butter, clotted cream and strawberry jam

fully loaded

I just love scone slathered with lots of butter (salted, of course) and some jam. Pair this with a nice cup of hot tea. Had Oolong Prestige but I really wanted to try the Moonfruit Black Tea. Funniest was, the tea name eluded my memory and hand wasn't convenient to access the menu when the staff came by to take order. So, took up her recommendation of Oolong and, it paired quite well with the snacks.

lovely cup of Oolong Prestige

Pork Bak Kwa in Soft Roll with Cucumber and Chicken Floss

For the sandwiches, the pork bak kwa bread wins hands down. The tiny pizza was still warm when served and it was flavourful.

Mini Vegetable Pizza

The two things that I didn't like from this afternoon tea were the Smoked Salmon on Pumpernickel Bread and Berry with Cream Cheese on Muesli Bread. Texture and flavour were not the most ideal. The muesli bread had hardened somewhat and not much flavour from the cream cheese. The pumpernickel bread was nutty but a tad dry.

Berry with Cream Cheese on Muesli Bread

Moving on, the Yam Mango Roll was good. Although mango taste was not prominent but its sweetness was there. The outer side was crisp.

Yam Mango Roll

this was good

The popcorn chicken could be great but this cooled down version was neither crispy nor soggy. Flavourful with a touch of spice and leaning towards sweet.

Popcorn Chicken

The marble cheesecake was another hit. Could do with a few more of those.

Evening Cocktail - 6pm to 8 pm

night time at Level 16

evening view

snacks and drinks

a glass of Pol Remy Brut with chicken satay, fried wanton, crab claws, fried mantou with chili crab sauce

brie and camembert with dried apricot, sesame crackers and grapes

favourite items were chicken satay and fried mantou with chili crab sauce

The food selection here while understandably limited during this period, was most disappointed with the seemingly run of the mill taste of the fried wantons and crab claws. The satay while tasted good, it wasn't served warm. The best tasting item was the fried mantou with chili crab sauce.

Tequila Sunrise (upon request)

dessert to end

Service was attentive, non-intrusive and polite.

Returned to my room for a bath, and was surprised to received a courtesy call from Nicole (from Collection Club Lounge). It was nice personal touch for staff to enquire about the dining experience so soon after. Awkward yes, but gives you a warm feeling (or maybe that's just the alcohol? *LOL*) And yes, I did inform them about the limited food selection.

Can read more from here about Pan Pacific Club Evening Cocktail. I think that would be my benchmark for food and drinks, for now.

Breakfast - 7am to 1030am

Went up to breakfast at about 9am and it was not too busy.

breakfast with sparkling wine

Started with a plate of salad, smoked salmon, ham and roast beef. The beef was slightly dry but the rest on the plate were pretty enjoyable.

Big Breakfast - chicken sausages, grilled tomato, hashbrown, chicken wing and omelette

yummy

I just love the eggs in the morning. Feels alive after eating some! One thing to note, was that the hashbrown that day was super crispy till its insides were hollow. Pretty interesting to have crunchy hashbrown!

crunchy hashbrown

Went back to get scrambled eggs and was curious about the porridge, so ordered a little bit to try.

porridge

Initially Chef served the porridge as it is. But I was like, eh... and asked if Chef can put all the condiments in. So, this fully loaded bowl has the preserved olives, pickled vegetable, green onions, dace fish and ginger slices, and a light drizzle of soy.

scrambled eggs

The problem with scrambled eggs, is there was no salt in it. So, I had an idea and added the eggs into the porridge. This is what I call, the perfect 'marriage'. Wah... it was so goood! Highly recommend this combination.

time to check out

It was nice being at the hotel again and this time round, was to experience the Collection Club privileges.
