Super Burst MSW Giant Puff

The MSW Giant Puff really lives up to its name because it was seriously huge! As big as my fist. The product came slightly frozen, so let it thaw first before biting into it. But seriously, who can resist? I actually bit down on it while it was still in its pretty solid state and boy, it was like eating durian sorbet.

Once it is adequately thawed, the pulpy fillings of fragrant and deliciously sweet MSW envelopes your entire mouth when you bite into these giant puffs. Lovely slight bitterness towards the end but overall so so good.

D24 Snowy Mochi

D24 Snowy Mochi @$15 per box of 6

of a cute size

The mochi skin was super soft and thin enough to burst the D24 fillings if one ever squeezed the mochi slightly. Ate it in one bite and it was super satisfying. Be careful though as it could be addictive since it was of such a cute size and one can't help but want for more.

Dark Choco MSW Mousse

Dark Choco MSW Mousse @$16 (UP $20)

Dark Choco MSW Mousse

The Dark Choco MSW Mousse was so good that one wouldn't want to share this dessert with anyone else. It looks rich and tasted decadent. Filled with The Durian Bakery signature SilkyGold™ Durian Puree, it was just scoop after scoop going into the mouth until none is left.

Sinful, indeed but no regrets....at least not until I looked at the weighing scale.

all mine

To impress the sweetheart, I'd recommend the Dark Choco MSW Mousse, and for the family, the Super Burst MSW Giant Puffs. Hence, just get the Signature Durian Dessert Box to enjoy it all!

[Tasting] 6ixty 7even Restaurant & Bar (67 Restaurant) @ 67 Neil Road

0 comments

Do you love venturing out, looking for cool new places to hang-out? 6ixty 7even Restaurant & Bar offers contemporary (modern) European cuisine with a touch of fusion.

6ixty 7even Restaurant & Bar

menu

Level 1 has a bar-atmospheric vibe with dark tones and high chairs. Plus a chiller full of alcoholic selection. One couldn't help but to order a drink here.

high chairs and tables

Level 2 dining area offers a more intimate and cosy setup for tete-a-tete with friends and loved ones.

Level 2

cosy vibes

If you're one who is curious about all the actions happening in the kitchen, then go ahead and grab a counter seat, or as some calls it, the Chef's Table. Say hi to Chef Ramesh and Vince. They are super friendly! Or simply watch when they are prepping your dinner.

guess where I'm seated

67 Signature Menu

Chilled Truffle Angel Hair Pasta (@$20 ala-carte)

The first course was beautifully plated and one could feel the care that went into prepping. Chilled Truffle Angel Hair Pasta is a familiar item at various places, and the version at 6ixty 7even has a balanced flavour with a refreshing feel. Noodles prepared al-dente, with lovely crispy sakura ebi. Subtle yet adequate.

Next course, soup.

I liked the idea of the plate with ingredients being presented first, but without the soup. No lah, not for us to get ready for the pour shot (but it works that way too, if you want), but more for us to appreciate the ingredients inside before soup is poured over. Visual treat, if you may.

ingredients appreciation

Truffle Scented Forest Mushroom Soup (@$15 ala-carte)

Again, the flavours are adequately balanced and the chunky mushrooms added 'bite' to the soupy experience. Noticeably, the portion of soup was rather generous! For me, I loved the distinctive charred smokey taste of the brioche crouton. Yummy!

Chef Ramesh plating our main course

For the 67 Signature Menu, one could choose between the Chicken or Fish for the main course.

Pan Seared Tiberias Harvest locally sourced Barramundi (@$28 ala-carte)

A feast for the eye. Loved the vibrant colours! The sauce tasted creamy, with a touch of acidity that nuances perfectly with the freshness of the barramundi. Violet quinoa are so pretty!

Violet Quinoa with Edamame beans, Braised Baby Cabbage, Iranian Saffron Emulsion

Vince was slicing a small portion of the chicken dish and we could hear the crispiness of it! That certainly amped up some expectations!

Crispy Roulade of Farmed Chicken (@$28 ala-carte)

Where shall I begin?

Visuals are on-point. Kabocha pumpkin puree was so naturally sweet. The tarragon chicken jus coating the roulade, was of a genteel flavour and kept the chicken moist. Tasted wholesome and this crispy chicken roulade, is now one of my favourite food.

favourite dish

Final course, the dessert. Chef Ramesh told us there is a 'surprise' element in the dessert and he will quiz us on it later. Wah... stressed!

67 Chocolate Dome (@$17 ala-carte)

The raspberry sorbet was done well and it wasn't too sour nor too sweet. The chocolate dome itself was of a mousse-like texture, with some bitterness (in a good way) from the cocoa and I thought it tasted of hazelnuts somewhere inside there. Loved the berries and the soil. And yes, happy to report that we 'passed' the test! The surprise is not revealed here although someone else had mentioned it in their blog.

The 67 Signature Set is priced at $67++ and offers good value to diners. The portions were good, and enjoyable flavours.

Signature Classics

Clover Club @$17

Pegu Club @$17

There are only 2 cocktails available currently under the Signature Classic section. Both drinks were pretty sweet, and I prefers the Pegu Club. Tasted of gin, cointreu and lime juice.

It was an enjoyable dining experience for both Ivan and myself. Thank you Sherman for the invite, and  Chef Ramesh and Vince for feeding us. Thank you 6ixty 7even Restaurant & Bar for hosting us.

Taste Of Korea 찐 (JJIN) @ 109 Amoy Street

0 comments

Wendy wanted to have Korean food, so we went to Taste of Korea for the first time. Reservation was made and received the confirmation the next day. Pretty efficient.

are we doing BBQ today?

Lunch Special for weekdays only

I wanted to try their jjajangmyeon, so we ordered the 'Chinese Value Set' @$42++ which comprises of two bowls of noodles; jjajangmyeon and jjampong plus a serving of tangsuyuk. Came with side dishes.

The staff was concerned as she highlighted that this set is only meant for 2 pax, while we are in a party of 3. Nevertheless, we assured her that we weren't that hungry and if need be, will order more.

spicy green chilies

Was thirsty, so ordered the yuzu tea. Otherwise, complimentary cold barley tea was provided as well.

cold roasted barley tea

iced yuzu tea @$5++

The bowls of noodles were rather huge! Definitely can feed 3 pax comfortably.

jjajangmyeon 짜장면 @$15++

Tangsuyuk was served with the sauce on its side. The sauce was flavourful, and adequately sweetened. There was a nice fragrant from the sauce as well. Plenty of onions in the sauce.

tangsuyuk (small) @$28++

The tangsuyuk meat was rather lean, and best to eat it while it is hot!

jjampong 짬뽕 @$16++

The jjampong was not spicy and was rather sweet. Could do with more seafood but I do like the addition of black fungus in there. Soup was tasty!

Overall, the food portion was good and we were definitely stuffed.

Thank you Jingwen and Wendy for joining me for lunch.

[Tasting] La Belle Époque @ 63 Boat Quay

0 comments

La Belle Époque which means ‘the golden age’ in French, serves up modern European cuisine in the heart of Singapore's vibrant dining belt by the river, Boat Quay.

Helmed by creative and passionate Chef Firdauz Nasir, one can expect contemporary European cuisine using fresh ingredients seasoned with natural herbs. In fact, the restaurant has its own herb garden.

Happy Hour

I loved browsing through their drinks menu. The Signature Serves (cocktail) are priced at $20++ while the classics are priced at $16++. I was pretty interested in Butterscotch Sgroppino.

For starters, there's Oyster & Iberico. The platter consists of 3 pieces of lightly torched oysters, topped with crispy iberico ham, tomato salsa and Avruga caviar.

Oyster & Iberico @$26++

The next appetiser was aptly named as "Skins". Chicken, fish and pork skins in fact. The whole bowl looked pretty with the greens and little flowers. The black garlic aioli was lovely with the fresh vegetables but it'll turn the skins soggy in no time.

Skins @$8++

If you prefer vegetarian dish, you'll probably like the Hummus Taco. This plate tasted of chickpeas! Loved the sauce.

Hummus Taco @$10++

For just $28++, the Charcuterie Platter offers good value as one could choose any 4 selection of cold cuts and cheeses. We had cold cuts; Black Forest Raw Ham and Collar boneless (Cabecero) Iberico. Cheeses; Taleggio DOP Cheese and Comte Rivoire. If ordered each items individually, the total would've cost about $36++.

Charcuterie Platter @$28++

Remember to say hi to Andy, as he makes the prettiest cocktails.

Pear & Rose Gin Sour @$20++

For healthier chips, one could try the Tomato Foccacia Chips to munch on. Bread as chips? Interesting!

Tomato Focaccia Chips @$3++

If you prefer meatless, the Cauliflower Steak is pretty substantial, plus gluten free. Meant to be shared, unless you are very hungry. Loved the purple pommes potato. Imagine orh nee but with natural sweetness. The cauliflower was not my thing though.

Cauliflower Steak @$12++

Beef Shortribs @$28++

For meat lovers, there is Beef Shortribs. Braised ribs marinated with local spices, and cooked for 48 hours and served with lightly smoked fine haricot beans, aged port wine & romaine salad.

The Smoked Pork Belly appeared with a golden crackling ontop. It was visually appealing.

Smoked Pork Belly @$16++

served with grilled peach salad

Depending on your luck, you may get a piece of belly that has more jelly/fats than the other. Or, if you happen to get the corners like I did, some bits would be pretty tough to chew. Not a big issue for me and I did prefer the pork belly over the short ribs here.

Let's try some dessert! First was the Lemon Tart. Looked so pretty with the torched Italian meringue. The meringue tasted like soft marshmallow and the lemon custard was more sweet than sour. The cinnamon tart was nice.

Staff described this as a 'surprise' kind of dessert so don't forget to lift up the cover after you're done with the tart. What you'll be getting may not be the same as mine!

Lemon Tart @$10++

dehydrated fruit slice

Next up, is Tiramisu with marsala wine, and served with berries by its side.

Tiramisu @$10++

The finale is for all chocolate lovers. As well as fans of Star Wars. Is there anyone who doesn't like Valrhona chocolate? While the raspberry sorbet looked so vibrant, it was too sour for my liking.

Guerre Stellari @$10++

My top 3 picks are Oyster and Iberico, Smoked Pork Belly and Lemon Tart.

Thank you Jennifer for the invitation and La Belle Époque for hosting us. Special thanks to Chef Firdauz for sharing with us your love and passion for modern European cuisine, and Siva for taking care of our table.
