[Staycation] Revisiting Pan Pacific Singapore @ Raffles Boulevard, Experience Breakfast, Afternoon Tea and Evening Cocktails @ Pacific Club Lounge

0 comments
Reservations made, bags packed and arrived during lunch time to check-in. It was right after New Year's day, hence people might have settled in or have checked out to continue their daily things. Considered an 'off-peak' period. Was ushered to the check-in queue and all the counters were occupied (three counters were observed to be active) and there was a family in-front of me waiting as well.

After some 10 minutes, a new counter was opened and I was next in line. When it was my turn, the staff probably noticed the GHA membership displayed in the user database and was invited to the GHA VIP Lounge to continue with the rest of the check-in process. Hehe. Oh, the GHA member amenity (a box of macarons) was presented at the lounge instead of it being left in the room.

Was given the Club Room at Level 32, so that was nice. Club Lounge is at Level 38.

Champagne Breakfast (7am to 1030am)

Pacific Club breakfast menu

Champagne and orange juice (mimosa, deconstructed)

three-eggs omelette

Club French Toast with Caramelised Banana

The menu does not have the caviar with waffles anymore, and staff mentioned that this was probably due to it being an unpopular item. Hmm.

The french toast have quite a strong crust for the thick bread. I liked the softer parts of the brioche after cutting away the hardened crust.

perfect bite

Also tried the nasi lemak section where you could pair the coconut rice with typical nasi lemak ingredients such as chicken rendang, hard boiled egg, fried anchovies, sambal, cucumber, achar or otah.

nasi lemak plate

Absolutely loved the piping hot plate of nasi lemak. The rendang and sambal weren't spicy so it's more for the fragrance and the taste of spice without the heat.

Eggs Benedict

runny yolk

The hollandaise sauce for the eggs benny was one of the better ones tasted. However, the muffin had its underside burnt.

enjoying the view

Afternoon Tea (3pm to 5pm)

enjoying tea-break with fresh mixed juice (orange, apple and carrot)

curry seafood fried noodles was flavourful though texture a tad mushy

mini charcoal burger, potatoes, heirloom tomatoes salad, chicken pie and wrap

can't get enough of juice

The charcoal bun was one of the driest I've tasted. But if you see chai tao kuay or the local fried carrot cake, that I highly recommend.

mochaccino

I think I like mochaccino more than cappucino.

delicious fried carrot cake

carrot cake and pandan chicken so delicious, it deserved an encore

beautiful kuehs and tea cakes for finale

There was a guest at the table across mine, and he was intrigued by the pandan chicken and asked the staff on how to get it out of the wrapper. As I had one, I kaypoh and showed him on how to unwrap the chicken albeit the messy way with his partner looking at me. Hahaha. Well, the chicken was well marinated and tasty, so it was worth the effort. There might be a better way to unwrap it with more elegance but between him and me, neither of us know how. Keke.

Evening Cocktails (6pm to 8pm)

If you enjoy your cocktails strong, this is the place to be.

Champagne, cheeses, pastrami slice, salad and smoked salmon

sirloin slices, chicken and minced octopus pie

everyone seemed to be getting a Lychee Martini

lamb slices with mint chutney, sausages

assorted fruits

Lime Margarita

The only thing that I drank excessively were coffee and fruit juice.

Overall experience, lovely to be back at this place.

[Staycation] Let's Explore Mondrian Singapore Duxton, Bottega Di Carna and Christina's

0 comments

First time staying at Mondrian and chose the Signature City King room. Went at about 2pm and fortunately, the queue at the lobby was short. Lobby/Reception is at Level 3. Got my room keycards within 5 minutes, thanks to the efficiency of Hakim. Requested for a late check-out and no issue with that too.

Room assigned was at Level 11 and highest floor is 12. Breakfast will be at Bottega di Carna and for the Accor complimentary drink, the redemption is at Christina's.

Room was cosy but the air conditioning  at times could be quite loud. The shower water strength was adequate but not sure why the temperature control for hot water seemed to come in 'pulses'. Like, I was using hot water and it would suddenly swing to an increase in temperature for a few seconds, then reduces on its own for a few seconds and repeat.

Thanks for the fruit platter (mini mandarin oranges, plums and dragonfruit). My favourite was the dragonfruit. So juicy and sweet.

Level 4 - Gym

Rooftop - Pool

There's plenty of restaurants nearby, so one would be spoilt for choice. Nearest hawker center is probably the Maxwell Market.

Let's Eat

Lunch at Christina's

view from my table

Didn't make any reservation and there was no one at the door, so I just walked in. Waited for a short while for the manager to notice and after which was seated immediately. The place was fairly relaxed at 2pm with some diners chit-chatting, while some looked engaged in business discussions.

Accor Welcome Drinks menu

Decided to go with Cocktail of the Day which turned out to be whiskey sour. I believe I haven't have this before. Usually, am more of a mojito, margaritas and martini type of gal.

whiskey sour

Thanks to Navin, I had a delicious cocktail. The fisherman's stew took about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive.

Mediterranean Fisherman's Stew @$26++

one tiger prawn, some squids, mussels and clams

The stew was served hot, and tangy. Pretty appetising and comforting on a rainy day. Plus, it was nice to have this after the cocktail. And no, am not hungover!

The cocktail was successfully redeemed and there was discount on food using the Accor Gold membership.

Breakfast at Bottega di Carna

Pro-tip: Breakfast service gets busy after 9am and there was a queue from 930am onwards

Deep Magenta, Mirrored by Ian Davenport

Breakfast buffet spread is adequate, and there's a couple of main sections; Asian and Western breakfast selection, salads and charcuterie, pastries and waffles, coffee machines and juice stations.

scrambled eggs, hashbrown, sausages, spring rolls, fried noodles and mini chicken pie

The fried bee hoon (rice vermicelli) was pretty good. Slightly sweet. Hashbrown was nicely crisp as well.

self-service coffee machine

Got a flat white from the coffee machine, and wasn't exactly fast, so I guess that's why guests usually utilizes both machines at the same time since they are getting for their partner as well. Keke, or if you need oat/soy milk with the coffee, can also request from staff.

salad, cheese and fruits plate

Oh, I was proud of the salad plate that I made and enjoyed every bite of it.

loved the pastries

made by the barista

Lovely to see Navin again during breakfast service, and he offered to bring me a cup of coffee although I was seated like a few steps from the coffee machine. Haha, thank you~

Dinner at Bottega di Carna

Met up with Florence and Gina for dinner at Bottega for our annual catch-up. Thankful to have them keeping in touch after our last stint in the same company, and that was like what.. 20 years ago.

sparkling @$4.50++

menu

I told the gals I only have one request and that is I wanted to order the gnocchi since I have not tried it before. Hehe.

Order was placed with some effort as we kept chit-chatting and that took a while! Staff who attended to our table was friendly and accommodating.

Puglia Burrata 125g @$26++

The burrata was more melty than expected but overall so delish! Good choice, Florence!

During my past visit which was some time ago, complimentary bread basket was served to the table. Hence, I enquired to another staff if they'll be serving bread. He said no and informed that the restaurant do not serve complimentary bread anymore. Oh, ok.

But a few minutes later, we got bread. Hmm, so am also not sure which one is the policy but I do enjoy the bread served at Italian restaurants.

rosemary focaccia (complimentary)

soft bouncy bread

If one needs balsamic to go with the bread, can request from the staff and they'd be happy to bring some for the table.

gnocchi @$28++

First impression of the gnocchi plate, was eh... it looked like pan-fried. Haha, the gnocchi that I had in the past were all sauced up. But, it was love at first bite for the version here. Sweet potato gnocchi, sage butter, cheese, crunchy pecan nut was yums. Can literally taste the sweetness.

Linguine Vongole @$28++

The clams in the linguine vongole was the largest I've ever seen in a vongole. No joke. The clams were sweet but do be careful as there were some bits of broken shell hidden underneath the clam meat. This was Gina's choice.

For meat, we ordered the ribeye.

Stockyard Ribeye @$98++

medium rare

For the sides, we ordered the creamed spinach (Flo's choice) and fries (Gina's choice). After the dishes were served, Flo's reaction was, "Why is there a sunny side up in the creamed spinach?"

Creamed Spinach @$18++

Parmesan Fries @$16++

The fries turned soggy after a while, so recommend to eat it while it is hot.

The amount of food ordered was adequate for 3 ladies with not so big appetite. Then, the staff came by to clear our plates and asked the ever important question, "Would you like to have desserts?" We were like, nah... we are full but can bring us the dessert menu to have a look?

sweets/desserts menu

In our speak, means we will order desserts. It was either the tiramisu or brie cheesecake (though I was secretly eyeing the Baked Alaska). Brie cheesecake was the final choice.

Brie Cheesecake @$16++

It was rather mild and had a more smooth/compact texture. The ice-cream/sorbet was interesting. Not very sour cream tasting but just had a flavour that's not familiar yet not too foreign.

Cheers to our years of friendship and many more to come! Yes, we are on old folks topics nowadays.
