[Jeju] Octopus Noodles 오빠네 왕만두 문어라면 @ Dongmun Traditional Market 제주동문시장

Although we know we were headed to Dongmun Traditional Market, I didn't do any research prior on what food to eat there. Tracy said there's an octopus ramyeon shop, so we went round trying to look for it without realising that we had passed by it before...

At last, we looked up at the banner of one of the shop that we had passed by earlier, and voila! 'Octopus Noodle' !

our breakfast stop

The shop front seemed to be selling steamed mandus and steamed cakes. We enquired from the lone person in the shop if we could get breakfast there and he said yes.

The place was a small and functional. We were the only customers at that time. The interior felt like it was frozen somewhat in the passage of time.

The information that Tracy got, was from this post. I wanted the mandus so we enquired from the uncle on how many pieces were there in one serving. He said 5. So I asked if we could do a mix and he said ok.

mandu (5 pieces) ₩5000 - 3 pork and spring onions, 2 kimchi

The steamed dumplings were lovely. Both were pretty flavourful. Complimentary water is available. Self-service and get your own cup from the water dispenser in the shop.

Though we were only having instant noodles, the shop still serves complimentary kimchi and pickled radish as side dish.

The broth for the octopus noodles was rather spicy. The octopus were cut up into small pieces and I quite liked the texture. Chewy but not tough.

pork ramyeon @₩11000

We ordered the pork noodles, and the broth, noodles for this was different from the octopus ramyeon. There were generous pieces of pork in the noodles. However, the meat was lean and a tad tough. It also had a stronger porky smell.

Both bowls had similar toppings of bean sprouts and onion slices.

The uncle was friendly and since we were the only customers, he talked to us a little bit to find out where we were from, and how did we find the shop.

[Jeju] Dinner at a Pork Ribs Specialty Place - Dalma Suchbul Galbi (달마숯불갈비) @ Jungang

This place sells only one BBQ item; pork ribs. One could get the marinated or unmarinated version. Of course, we tried both. My preference is the marinated version.

shop front

As usual, we just walked in to the place and we got a table pretty quickly. The place was rather busy and the shop only has 2 pax serving all the hungry diners.

menu

The shop owner took our orders and quickly served out the side dishes.

marinated raw spicy crabs

blanched beansprouts with sesame oil

The place has the vibes of a mom and pop shop. As the menu was simple, diners only had to choose whether they want marinated or unmarinated version and how many grams per table. Most locals seemed to prefer the unmarinated version.

a full table of good food

I was rather impressed that the side dish consisted of marinated raw crabs. So cool! Tasty too! There's a spicy tofu stew included so it was rather nice to eat the BBQ meats with all the other foods. Never a boring moment!

The uncle manning the shop would only come by our table once in a while to see how we were doing with the meats.

beautiful

The grilled meats could be rather oily, so the hot piping stew came in handy to cut down some of the grease.

Overall, a place to have a quick meal of BBQ meat at a reasonable price. No frills place where one grills the meat on your own. The side dishes and soup were top notch as well.

Satisfying though we ate it in a bit of a hurry during the last 15 minutes as we were the last ones left at the shop.

[Jeju] Experiencing Windy Seongsan Ilchubong and Lunch at Green Roof @ Seogwipo

After enjoying the seaview at Seogwipean Bakery, we proceeded to enjoy mountain view at Seongsan Ilchubong. A Unesco World Heritage site, we enjoyed our stroll there. But boy, the wind is strong! It was enough to move your body and I am not that light.

Here's some photos:

After that, of course, it was time for lunch. We saw there's a burger place when we descended from Seongsan, so it was easily decided to dine there.

Surprisingly, I didn't order a beer. Ivan did. I ordered their hallabong freeze. Hehe, when in Jeju, drink hallabong! I liked my drink. The best remedy on a hot day!

The lunch looked good actually. The boneless chicken was like a super-sized popcorn chicken. Served piping hot and juicy!

yup, there's shrimp in there

The pork burger, one could taste the ginger in there. Shrimps were nice and visible although not much flavour.

Overall, a nice place to chill with air-conditioning. The shop owner/staff there was pretty relaxed too.

[Jeju] Bakery with Seaview @ Seogwipean Bakery 서귀피안 베이커리

It was a day to travel up north, heading towards Seongsan Ilchulbong. We stopped by Seogwipean Bakery for breakfast.

The baked goods and cashier are at Level 1. The freshly baked pastries are on display and one could also check out the baking schedule, for the freshest availability of your favourites.

There are seats at Level 1 as well as Level 2. The higher level offers a better view of the sea.

so cute

Jeju Black Pork sandwich

Jalapeno bread

matcha croissant

Not sure about you but I felt the urge to buy all those cutesy/delicious looking breads/pastries. Alas, need to refrain as stomach space is limited and we'll be out the whole day and this is just our first stop!

Bring your tray of breads/pastries that you have selected to the cashier and the staff will enquire if you like the bread to be sliced (or to be heated up etc), whether you'll have it dine-in or take-away. For drinks, I ordered the Jeju Green Barley Coffee, one of their indicated signature. I asked the staff if hot or iced is better and he said he prefers it hot, so I got that.

We brought our breads and drinks upstairs to enjoy. Will be keeping the jalapeno bread for tea-break.

The cookie was very flavourful with strong cheddar cheese. Pretty filling too! The Jeju Green Barley Coffee only had a slight hint of barley and loved the matcha cream in it. Comforting and yummy.

It was a nice place to chill before heading towards the next destination.
