Grand Copthorne Waterfront is within walking distance from M Social where I was having my staycation. Hence, took the opportunity to schedule a dinner with a colleague to try out the à la carte Buffet Riverside Barbecue at Food Capital. Thank you Gilbert and Food Capital for extending the invitation!

Let's lay out the different food sections:

what shall we start with

As per usual, we were cautious with our first order since we are not so sure about the portion size. Ordered the Seafood On Ice (available for dinner only), 2 portions of salmon and tuna sashimi,  for the tempura, you could indicate the portion and circle the items that you like, and some spicy smoked salmon. I also had a jar of wood ear salad.

top left clockwise: Seafood on Ice, Sashimi, Smoked Salmon, Tempura and Wood Ear Salad in the center

I ordered a glass of M Wine Red as the promotional price was $10++ per glass. For buffet, a cup of coffee/tea is included. For other beverages, just need to pay additional.

my fav drink at Millennium Hotels

Was happy with the sashimi. Fresh and good! So we had second helpings of this. But in the second round, the tuna was of a different cut hence, not so satisfying as the first plate.

tuna and salmon sashimi

For the Seafood On Ice, the langoustine was rather difficult to eat with its pokey shell. Was trying not to get cut by it, the clams were quite good actually, and the prawns were as usual firm and nice. The scallops and mussels were... a bit tough.

Next, was the tempura. The brinjal and sweet potatoes were enjoyable. Ebi was nice too although a bit limp.

Tempura

Next up, was the anticipated arrival of the grilled seafood platter and of course, the limited serving of lobster.

Fusion BBQ Grilled Platter with 3 sauces

hello there, beef sirloin

Pro-tip: Must must get the chinchalok sauce. Best sauce ever!

there's pork belly and chicken drumstick too

Hmm, the least enjoyable was the pork belly. I'd pick the chicken drumstick over the pork belly. Let me know what you think if you had tried it too. The squid was flavourful but it'll give the jaw a good workout.

The main highlight for me, was the lobster. Cooked just right, with sweet flesh. So satisfying!

look at that beauty

As lobster was just one serving, the next best, would be the live prawns. Yums! For me, all the grilled items except the squid and the otah, would go well with the chinchalok sauce. The sauce has quite the spicy kick, but so yummy and not pungent as thought.

Grilled Live Prawns

I like the laksa here, so introduced it to my friend.

Ok, by now we are stuffed. But not too stuffed for a sampling of the dessert.

And with that, we could eat no more.

Once again, thank you Gilbert for the invite and Grand Copthorne Waterfront Food Capital for the à la carte Buffet Riverside Barbecue.

One Night Staycation @ M Social Hotel - Alcove Room

Have always wondered about the staycation experience at this popular hotel. A couple of times enroute to Beast and Butterflies, I was amazed by the long queue of guests trying to check-in to the hotel. Finally, managed to book the Alcove Room at a good price via Agoda, and it included breakfast and hence, a staycation last weekend. Sweet!

As soon as you arrived at the hotel entrance, do queue up outside for the prelim check-in process. Get your mobile phone ready to do the Safe-Entry check-in and also the NRIC. After which, guest will be required to sign on the health declaration form, and scan your temperature before heading in to queuefor the actual hotel check-in and to get the room key card.

not the key card yet, just a slip of paper to pass to frontdesk

If there are many people, the inner queue could go right up to the hotel lift area.

yes, queueing

Queued for about half an hour before finally it was my turn. The frontdesk staff seemed to be in a hurry to clear the queue soonest possible and did not inform the guest pertaining to breakfast hours.

Nevertheless, got my key cards and off to Level 10, woOOohOOo! Do let the staff know during check-in if you'd be visiting the gym or pool. Otherwise, you'd need to make a trip down to the lobby to inform. Trust me on this as I have tried calling frontdesk a few times during my stay and there was no pickup.

One thing to note is that the sink is located outside of the bathroom. Turn the lever to the top left for hot water.

The pillows and bed were super comfy.

For dinner, I opted to dine at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Food Capital, where they are having the Riverside BBQ Seafood Buffet.

Read more about it in my next post. See ya soon!

[Tasting] Meatilicious Carnivores Weekend Buffet @ Cafe 2000 M Hotel Singapore

Craving for meats? Satisfy 'em all at the Meatilicious Carniores Weekend Buffet at Cafe 2000, M Hotel.

Meatilicious indeed

Each table will have order chits for diners to indicate the item(s) and the quantity. Like ordering dim sum. For the meats, order a few at one go and it will be served together on a wooden platter. If you were to ask, I'd say, don't waste time and let's jump right into the meats!

meats

No worries, while waiting for the items to be served, each pax will get a complimentary serving of baked cheesy sea scallop to snack on.

Baked Cheesy Scallop (complimentary starter, 1 serving)

There are add-ons for drinks too. A glass of Prosecco, please. Though beer came close since the weather was so humid these days.

Piccini Prosecco @$10.80++

small sides

crackling pork belly, pork ribs, roast prime rib of beef

It's been ages since I last dined at Cafe 2000, so we began with a modest order of 3-meats for 2-pax; Grass-fed Roast Prime Rib of Beef, BBQ Citrus Flavoured Baby Back Ribs and Crackling Pork Belly. Came with a side of fries, and served with beef gravy, Thai Pineapple dip and mustard.

The fries was so good! The best I've tasted from a buffet. The sio-bak (crackling pork belly) was nice too especially those fatty parts. Crunch on the skin, and enjoy the mouthfeel of the melty fats and tender meat.

very good fries

lovely tender meat, with crackling skin

The BBQ back-ribs was superb too. Fork tender and easy to clean off the meat from the bone.Just didn't detect the citrus part though.

Beef was enjoyable and lovely with the gravy. Now, I need that glass of M Wine Red...

how about some carbs?

Linguini Vongole with M Wine

The pasta portion for one pax was actually just the right portion for sampling if you're in a party of 2. Now, we opted for more meats as a finale as befitting the buffet theme!

Norwegian Salmon, Roast Black Pepper ChickenSwiss Cheese Pork Sausage, and Cajun Spiced Garlic Lamb Leg

The salmon was nicely moist with a hint of turmeric. The pork sausage makes a good pair with beer. Roast chicken was a tad dry and the lamb was good. Mint sauce was pretty sweet!

Thank you Kris for the invite, and Matilda and M Hotel for hosting the tasting.
