Recommendation

AOMORI SCALLOP (JAPAN) (500G/PKT)

青森県産 ホタテ

AOMORI SCALLOP (JAPAN) (500G/PKT) @$33.20

How about getting some sashimi grade scallops to satisfy sweet cravings for this mollusk? Loved the size of the scallops and tried it pan-fried as well as sashimi style. Just need to thaw it before cooking. Lovely sweetness from the scallops, and so satisfying when it's meaty.

KABAYAKI UNAGI FILLET (JAPANESE STYLE) (250G/1PC/PKT)

うなぎかば焼き

KABAYAKI UNAGI FILLET (JAPANESE STYLE) (250G/1PC/PKT) @$15

I love unagi, but the size of the unagi commonly sold in the supermarket would normally be around 120G, hence not so shiok. With 250G, the portion was adequate to indulge and yet have enough to share with my sibling. Keke.

Not sure why, but unagi usually thaws faster than other types of frozen meat. Usually, I'd have it with noodles/sandwich style but this time round, made it as luxed-up toppings for the simple egg and vege porridge. There were some small bones in the fish, so just need to be aware. Otherwise, the fish was firm, with sweetness of the glaze intact. Flavourful, and instant elevation to any dish!

CRAB CREAM CROQUETTE (20PC/PKT)

カニクリームコロッケ

CRAB CREAM CROQUETTE (20PC/PKT) @$15.10

The price works out for under a dollar each for a croquette! Imagine crispy outer with the panko and all, and delicious creamy molten insides. Let the photo speaks for itself.

Tasty and convenient.

Thank you Jennifer for the introduction and SAKANA for the delivery.

First things first. I'd recommend to place an order for the Shokado Bento Box as it is only available in limited quantity daily. Ideal for us who would like to have a bit(e) of everything. Multi-course meal that includes appetiser, chawanmushi, tempura, grilled fish, meat dish, 2 kinds of sashimi, small rice bowl, small udon and dessert. Beautiful Shokado Bento, a highly satisfying and enjoyable experience.

SHOKADO BENTO 松花堂弁当

Super loved the thick-cut sashimi, the luscious fatty pork that glistened, healthy grilled salmon and best of all, one also gets their famed chewy udon in lovely dashi topped with katsuoboshi plus a bowl of salmon don to satisfy most cravings.

For first-timers to Dashi Master Marusaya, the must-try would be the all-time favourite Dashi Shabu Set Lunch. There's Hokkaido Pork Shabu, Beef Shabu and Wagyu Beef Shabu Set to opt from. For the all luxurious mouthfeel, go for the Wagyu Shabu set!

Kiyoshi Restaurant @ 75 Amoy Street (Dine-In/Takeway/Delivery)

Kiyoshi Japanese Restaurant is a family-styled restaurant specializing in Inaniwa udon, yakitori, sushi and affordable bento sets. Have tried one of their affordable bento set and some yakitori, so I was excited to be able to try their signature noodles. If you like the chewiness of Japanese udon and prefers thinner strands of noodles, Inaniwa udon (稲庭うどん) would be the perfect choice.

The signage was easily spotted and all guests are required to have their temperature taken and the usual Safe-Entry checked-in.

The place was well-lit and spacious. Counter seats, booth seats and normal table seats are available.

Let's start with some hot green tea. It was fun to get different designs of the tea cups. I got the fish cup, there's one with sushi and another of daruma.

saw this design in Japan before!

can you see daruma design at the back?

Ok, can't blame me for being slightly excited after staying at home for a long long while.

Started the meal with Beef Kinoko Salada with Carpaccio Dressing. Oooh, it was like the gyudon beef but on a bed of greens instead of rice! Loved the beef.

Beef Kinoko Salada with Carpaccio Dressing @$12.80

Next up, Tekka Tataki. The sauce for this was slightly more prominent (probably due to the direct contact with the tuna). Enjoyable and light tasting.

Tekka Tataki @$14.80

If you're having sake or beer, let's order a some deep fried salmon skin and a platter of yakitori to go along with the drinks! Plus, don't forget to order the tamago yaki!

The salmon skin was definitely crunchy! The next table probably can hear it from over there. Ok, maybe not. I wouldn't mind a bit more salt to the salmon skin. Otherwise, a dipping sauce with mayo is also provided.

Deep fried Salmon Skin @$6.80

My favourite item from the yakitori platter would be the tsukune. Large in size and also in taste. Lovely soft texture as well.

Tsukune @$3, Chicken Yakitori @$2, Ebi Mentaiyaki @$4 and Shishamo @$1.80

For fans of maki, I'd totally recommend the Special Salmon Mentai Roll. Generous amount of mentaiko cream which I can't get enough of! Not too salty and very tasty. Love that the deep fried shrimp batter remained crunchy, and that was a blast of contrast in texture!

Special Maki - Salmon Mentai Roll @$12.80

I know I'd want this till the last bite. No paiseh piece here!

good till the last bite

Now, are you ready for the noodles? Let's start with the classic Tempura Zaru Udon, which is basically chilled udon served with dipping sauce and tempura. The tempura selection included prawns, mushroom, sweet potato , pumpkin and enoki mushrooms. The sweet potato was indeed sweet!

Pro-tip: Don't leave the udon out for too long! Best consumed as soon as it was served.

Tempura Zaru Udon @$18.80

Next was the Aburi Salmon Salad Udon. The sauce was already at the bottom of the bowl, so just mix well before digging in! The noodles has a lovely chewy texture to it and this combination was refreshingly light on the palate. Suitable for those who prefers something healthier tasting.

Aburi Salmon Salad Udon @$18.80

If you are all about flavours and texture, the most popular udon bowl would be the Tem Chirashi Udon. Tempura of bite-sized items such as avocado slices, cherry tomato, mushrooms and even scallops, are scattered ontop of the bowl and topped with onsen egg. What do we do when we see wobbly eggs? We popped 'em! Coat the noodles with the yolk and swirl them around before catching it into your mouth. Mmmm, yummy!

Tem Chirashi Udon @$16.80

I liked mine with a dab of wasabi. Try it.

Kiyoshi Restaurant offers a nice, comfortable ambiance for dine-in with fresh ingredients prepared using contemporary approach. If you are dining at the restaurant, there's sake available too!

Thank you Jennifer for the invite and Kiyoshi Restaurant for the meal.

Itacho Sushi @ Novena Square

Was famished and decided to try this new Itacho outlet at Novena Square 2. Staff will take your temperature and customer will leave their name and contact number. Like the other sushi chain restaurant in Singapore, Itacho has its app that customer can download from Google Play or App Store.

Ordering was simple but took quite long to browse as there were sections like Sushi King, Season Special, Easter Surprise etc. At 2.30pm, the two limited promotion items were sold out. There goes my cheap sushi.

I love scallops, so ordered one and the Mar promotional item of roasted bincho red wine with lemon sauce. The aburi scallop sushi is rather pricey and I'd recommend the Genki sushi version where 3 hotate sushi is only about $5+.

[front to back] Roasted Bincho Red Wine with Lemon Sauce @$2.20 and Roasted Scallop @$3.30

Not the pretties looking and there's a noticeable difference in size between the $2.20 and $3.30 sushi.

the only flavour you'll remember is the lemon tang

There's a drink promo where $2.50 gets you two canned drinks. The menu has a few combo which you could choose. I chose a sweet one and another unsweetened one.

Mango Green Tea @$2.50 (1 for 1)

One of the prettier looking dish was the Roasted Kagashima Wagyu Beef. Plating was on-point and served with garlic chips too! The wagyu slice was thin as expected for this price point. Worth ordering.

[Sushi King] Roasted Kagoshima Wagyu Beef w Garlic @$10
different angle

Next, was also a luxurious item of Sea Urchin Tai sushi. Was abit cautious in ordering uni (sea urchin) at Itacho but was pleasantly surprised by this item. The small dollop of uni looked pretty good actually, but overall, this piece was tiny. No funky taste, and the sushi had a little hint of sweetness.

[Season Special] Sea Urchin Tai Sushi @$4.50 (UP $5.60)

Usually, I'll be full with 7 pieces of sushi but at Itacho, I needed more (due to the average size of the sushi piece which was slightly smaller). Added 2 more pieces of sushi; sea eel and akami.
Sea Eel Sushi @$3
Blue Fin Tuna Sushi  Akami @$3.40 (UP $4.50)

The sea eel sushi had a glaze that tasted too sweet for me, so it wasn't as enjoyable as anticipated. Was rather happy with the akami. Good portion and tasted about just right!

Spent $34 for the above meal.

Crown Bakery & Cafe @ Bukit Timah

Located at Crown Centre, this bakery cafe is painted in charming cerulean/tiffany blue. Looks striking from afar and had passed by this place once and yesterday was the first time trying it.

let's eat some breads

The cafe welcomes walk-in customers and do not take in reservations for seats. Ample tables at the alfresco area and they are observing the safe distancing rules. Indoor dining is limited to 3 tables during this period.

indoor dining

Order at the counter and make payment first. Customers will be given a buzzer and to collect when food/drink is ready. Staff are young and friendly.

As with a bakery, was inclined to try their breads, hence ordered their B.L.T.C and Grilled Pork Sandwich. Customers can choose their bread for the sandwiches, so we had ciabata for the sandwich and croissant for the B.L.T.C.

For drinks, I tried the mocha and the "Sweet N Simple" juice.

B.L.T.C (front) @$14.90 and Grilled Pork Sandwich (back) @$15.90

I suppose B.L.T.C stands for bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheddar? Hahaa! All the yummy ingredients in the sandwich. Very tasty combo and slightly on the saltier side due to the bacon. Sinful, and satisfying. Loved the salad on the side. Fresh, crisp and tasty from the sprinkling of dressing.

thick cut bacon stack

But the star, ought to be the grilled pork sandwich. Well buttered crispy toast, thick cut juicy and flavourful pork belly that was grilled perfectly. Yums! Not forgetting them pickles in there. Lovely combo.

thick and juicy

Have it all with a glass of sweet healthy juice. I liked my green apple and celery juice. Sweet~

Sweet N Simple @$6

For hot drink, try the mocha. Loved the sweet thick cocoa taste, and I thought the drink temperature was just right. Enjoyed this quite a bit.

And of course, da-bao'ed (take-away) some of the breads. Can't buy too many because its prices are on the higher side.

Assorted Breads

Salted Butter Roll @$2
Almond Cream Brioche @$2.40

My favorite of the lot, was the Japanese Sweet Potato Mini Loaf. When its stated as mini, it really was!

but I was wrong, inside there's sweet potato~
