It was quite a drive to this place from our hotel. The restaurant seemed to be located at a pier area and there are parking space available just opposite the restaurant.

Is it the only sashimi restaurant at this place? No as we observed, there is another one just next door to this. But is this a popular one? The answer is a resounding yes! We were there before 730pm and without reservation. There is a machine for automated queuing system but we had difficulty using that due to unfamiliarity. Lucky us, the staff from the restaurant was helpful and we got ourselves into the queue.

We waited outside but it was raining so, we moved our butts inside the restaurant and they do have a narrow corridor with seats for guests to wait for their queue number to be called.

We got ourselves a table after 30 minutes. The menu is relatively simple, so we got ourselves a set for 4 pax which is ₩85,000.
side dish and condiments for the sashimi |
sashimi of spanish mackerel |
Though the place is super busy, staff will take time to 'teach' or 'share' with first time diners on how to best enjoy the dish. There was a sequence of condiments to pair with the fish, but at the end of the day, one is free to craft their own wrap. Hahaa!

recommended wrap |
The most interesting thing, is the glutinous rice that's supposed to be in the wrap. First time am eating it this style. The rice was not salted but it did have a nice sesame oil fragrance.
glutinous rice |
It was actually very nice to make wraps with rice and raw fish. It got tastier the more one chews on it. The raw fish had different textures, depending on their cuts. The fattier ones are more chewy.

more! |
The set consist of grilled fish and a pot of soup. I love the grilled fish so much. Fatty and smooth flesh. Plus the grilled fragrance is one that can't be resisted.
The soup was comforting for the rainy weather. The spiciness came from the green chilies in the soup!

The staff also brought us a small braised dish for us to try. Thank you for the treat!

We enjoyed our meal and there's a coffee machine at the shop's entrance. So we got ourselves a cup and drank it to wait for the rain to subside because none of us remembered to bring our umbrella. Haha!

After a hearty breakfast at Jeju Osung, we went on a mini adventure to see the Cheonjeyeon Waterfall (천지연폭포). Here are some photos to share:
Cheonjeyeon Fall #1 (Pond) |
accessible via these steps |
I could only make it to one of the 3 nearby falls. Weather was gloomy and it was slightly drizzling while we were in there. The steps are made of rocks so it was uneven and slightly slippery, especially when there's moss and leaves.

Then, off to The Cliff for some drinks and maybe a light lunch. It was just 10 minutes away from where we were.

beach bar vibes |
It's a self-service system at The Cliff. Order from the counter, pay and you'll get a buzzer to inform when food/drinks are ready.
splurging on drinks and bar food |
Went over to the bar to see how the drinks are being made and tried to ask about the liquor used. However, language barrier was apparent as the bar tend tried to explain but I just couldn't catch what they were saying. I think they thought I was asking if there's alcohol in the drinks and obviously, they said yes.
pretty drinks |
We ordered both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic version of Seakdal Beach and both the cocktail and mocktail looked identical! So we had to be extra careful when bringing the right one back to Hence.

But hor, cocktail and mocktail are priced the same too! Hmmm interesting, yes?
We decided to order just 2 items for lunch since everyone was still pretty full from the heavy breakfast. Sausage and fries, and it was a toss between pizza or pasta. So glad we went for pasta as the anchovy pasta turned out to be amazing!
Long sausage and truffle fries @₩26000 |
Black Pork and Anchovy Pasta @₩22000 |
Why did the pasta tasted so good? One could not really taste the black pork but the saltiness from the anchovies and garlic was so so addictive. Oily, salty and tasty!
Ping Pong @₩16000 |
I liked my choice of drink; Ping Pong that has a slight hint of lychee. Presumably, they were using just lychee liquer and grenadine. Sweet and refreshing. Lovely contrast to the saltiness from the sausage and pasta.
The cocktail gave the impression that it was super light but wait for it as the buzz will come only towards the end of the drink.

We started the day with breakfast at a traditional restaurant specializing in hairtail fish. The place was fairly easy to find and has free parking nearby.

The restaurant is located at Level 2 and accessible by stairs or lift inside the building. The lobby is beautifully decorated and there is a souvenir shop there as well.

The TV screen at the lift showed that Sanghyuk 상해기 (Korean famous mukbanger) has been to Jeju Osung before.

let's order breakfast |
We ordered the Braised Cutlass Fish for 2 pax, ala-carte order of grilled mackerel and sea urchin seaweed soup, additional 2 bowls of rice and a beer. Hehe, yes why not have tangerine beer at 10am.

this paste was interesting |
The japchae side dish was pretty good. But the most interesting one was the boiled cabbage served with a type of fermented bean paste sauce that tasted pretty peculiarly umami but fishy. Interesting and it grows on you the more you eat it.
tangerine IPA |
In Jeju, it is my daily mission to drink or eat something associated with hallabong or tangerines. Hehe. The tangerine IPA was refreshing although a bit odd to be drinking it so early...

Braised Cutlassfish in a Pot (for 2 pax) @₩69000 |
The 'Braised Cutlassfish in a Pot' consists of all the side dishes, a pot of braised cutlass fish and a long grilled version of it.
our meal |
Staff will assist in deboning the grilled cutlass fish so that it is easier to eat. This fish has many many bones.

nice |
One could taste the fish more in the grilled version but I love the braised version as the spicy sauce was very good to have with the rice. So tasty!
The extra order of mackerel was good too as it has a much firmer texture than the cutlass and has more oily mouthfeel.
ala-carte order of grilled mackerel @₩15000 |
The set also comes with seaweed soup and the difference between the regular ones versus the sea urchin one was that the added sea urchin gave the soup a certain creaminess. Other than that, the taste remained largely the same.
We were very full from all the food. Spent ₩108000 for breakfast.
