Brunches Cafe @ 96 Rangoon Road

How long has it been since my last visit to a cafe? Far too long, I'd say! Brunches is a quaint cafe and quite the popular one too. We were lucky to be able to snag a table without reservation albeit with the agreement to vacate the table by the next hour. Ok, we could do that.

Was thinking of having coffee and a bit of everything else that the rest were having.

menu

By a bit, is actually an understatement. Haha! We ended up with two savouries and two sweets! Started off with deep fried mushrooms. Staff asked what sauce we wanted with the mushrooms. That's a good question. I have never thought of which sauce goes well with mushroom....ketchup? Chili or mayo? We had it all. Hahahaa!

mushrooms fritters @$8.90

Butterfly Pea Tea and Cold Brew Tea @$7 and $6.50 respectively

Coffee on the Rock Bailey's flavour @$8.50

follow the instructions

wait for it

Ivan's drink had a little instruction card, so cute. But it took like forever to melt. I had piccolo.

Service staff were friendly and the place gave off a homely vibe. Food and drinks were brought out fairly quickly. The mushrooms were pretty good and we enjoyed it.

We had the Big Breakfast to share. Scrambled eggs, sausages, salad, bacon, mushrooms and the works. Can't go wrong with this.

Pimp My Brekkie Big Breakfast @$20.90

For dessert, we had high hopes for Brioche French Toast and while it looked really good, the bread was the weakest link. Not sure why this brioche was so dense and compact. The fruits were nice.

Brioche French Toast @$14.50

Thankfully, we were satisfied with the tiramisu. And, it has those 'soil' that were really popular back then. Hahahaa. I'd recommend the tiramisu. Thumbs up!

As it was not time to check-in to the hotel yet, we took a stroll around the area. Look out for the next food hunt around the area in the next post. See you soon!

This is one of those places where you will be able to find the over the top milkshakes. Wait. Is this still trending? Visited at about five in the evening on a weekend and there was a queue formed. Looks like it is still popular.

here for this

Likewise, we too would want to check out what the fuss was about. Ordered the Old School and the recommended Banana Nutella. Both cost $16++. Steep pricing for a milkshake, I feel.

Old School Over The Top Shakes

After seeing this, realization came that the stuffs that were piled onto this shake were those things from childhood era. That chocolate wafer, sugar gems, candy floss and that round wafer.. all nostalgic. Felt slightly strange to be scraping those chocolate fudge off the outerside of the jar. The heavy top tumbled off after a few minutes. Perhaps we had moved it around a tad too much?

Banana Nutella

The Banana Nutella had salty mini pretzels that contrasted with the sweet stuffs. Loaded with cream as well. Best part was the nuttella. In terms of the shake, liked the vanilla flavoured ones in Old School better than the banana flavoured ones in the latter.

Karafuru カラフル Desserts @ Jalan Klapa

Instagram shots of colourful éclairs? You must have seen one of those, right? Found it fascinating. After a certain amount of exposure over a period of time, it has created a desire to visit the shop.

The place was kind of zen with white walls and minimalistic furnishing. The éclairs were categorized as non-alcoholic and alcoholic ones.

colourful éclairs

Choose your éclairs and pay at the counter. If éclair is not your thing, how about trying its yoghurt parfait? Or, choose from its dessert sets as it include a small pot of tea.

If you had ordered the parfait dessert set, then a buzzer will be given as they will need a bit of time to plate the desserts.

Let's bring out the カラフル エクレーア~

(front anti-clockwise) sakura, matcha azuki, blackforest, cafe au lait
matcha azuki @$6+

blackforest (alcoholic) @$7+
cafe au lait @$6+

For éclairs, I liked the cafe au lait best. The yoghurt parfait was nice and not too sour but the syrup underneath the pudding tasted like cough syrup.

Soba seed tea, was mild and soothing.

The sweets were photogenic and pretty to look at. Noted that it was not overwhelmingly sweet. We spent about $9 per pax.

Actually, the whisky creme éclair was one of those that caught my eye...wonder how it will taste like...
