[Travel] Exploring Chiang Mai - Rainy Day Breakfast at Big Brother Song Noodle Shop, Shopping at Waroros Market, Visited Wat Phra Singh, Lunch at Carp Cafe

We were supposed to be going towards the mountain area that day but it was raining. Our driver advised us not to travel far in such weather and we agreed.

Instead, we went to the Chiang Mai City Arts & Cultural Centre. It was quite a cool place. Ticket can be purchased at the reception at the ground floor and we were directed to the starting point. The sequence of the exhibition was easy to follow and we had fun and gained more understanding on the history of Chiang Mai.

After that, we went to Waroros Market and headed for breakfast at Big Brother Song Noodle Shop. This shop is outside of the market, so we walked for a bit. The lady boss was very welcoming. Menu was simple and we placed our orders.

I opted for the recommended pork noodle soup with narrow kway tiao. Food was served out fairly quickly as the shop was not too busy. Loved the tasty clear broth. But the biggest surprise when I had a bite of the narrow kway tiao. So flavourful! Yums.

I added abit of the chili (dark coloured) that was on the table and oh my, it was sooo spicy! So add a bit will do to change up the flavours.

have you tried this?

Next, we did some shopping at Waroros Market.

Then, we went upstairs the market for bathroom break as well as some snacks/coffee. There was an ice-cream shop, and saw that they have fried ice-cream, so gave that a try. Think it was around 65 baht if not wrong. Chose coconut ice-cream for that.

Then, there was a coffee kiosk right next to the ice-cream stall, so went to take a look. The chap at Kadluang Roaster was friendly and we conversed a bit in English. Asked for a mocha and he informed that there's two coffee blend for customers to choose based on intensity. He would describe the flavour profile for each, and I got myself the lighter one as he mentioned that the other one would be a tad more acidic.

Loved the way he carefully prepared the drinks. The mocha was nicely done and tasted good.

Then, it was time for lunch and we went to an instagramable place; The Carp Cafe.

To get to the table, one needs to walk up and down the man-made small bridges and the table is right next to the water body where the carps can be seen swimming around. The carp here are huge! Saw many diners busy taking their OOTD photos at this place.

If you're interested to feed the fishes, then you could purchase the fish food and fish bottle at the shop.

Be careful though as the fishes seemed very eager to be fed and they came splashing!

swarming for food

Now, it was time to feed the humans. Menu-wise seemed to be fusion Japanese. We had to be careful not to place the food too near to the pond as we were afraid things might drop into the water or water would come splashing on our food.

The udon tomyum was not bad and the sun dried pork was quite good. The tempura was an assortment of vegetables such as enoki mushrooms, potato, sweet potato, and onion rings.

For breakfast, we had it at Tang City Food Court. Find a place to sit and the drinks stall person would come to ask for your drinks order. Pay when the drinks or food is served.

The beef soup stall is towards the back left corner of the food court. They also have fish head noodles as the other option.

The beef soup was clear broth and very tasty. The beef parts included beef slices, tendon, beef ball and all were delicious and tender. It was a happy meal.

Mom prefers the milder soupy stuffs like fishball/porkball noodles.

Char kway was ok for it had plenty of ingredients including cockles.

We ordered their signature claypot lou shi fun (silver pin noodle) and decided to try Tom Yum fried rice.

The medium portion of the noodles and fried rice was smaller when compared to its neighbour. The food here is stronger in terms of seasoning, and thus, no wonder the lady boss asked us if we could like some beer to go along with the dishes.

The claypot noodles was served bubbling and one was supposed to mix the ingredients together. It doesn't look like much but flavourful. I enjoyed each scoop of the noodles, especially with the sambal chili. Tom Yum fried rice was decent but the tom yum flavours were pretty muted and not spicy.  There was one or two good sized prawn in there.

I quite liked the fried chicken. Freshly fried to crispy perfection and well marinated. Yums! But my family felt it was too salty.
